Biography: Diana Feldman, MDdirects the Payne Whitney Geriatric Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic, which provides evaluations, consultations and treatment for adults of age 65 and older. Biography: Dr. Slater directed The Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison Service from 1992 until 2014, when he became a Senior Consultant. The Consultation-Liaison Service provides evaluations and brief treatment for children and adolescents hospitalized at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York, who have a primary psychiatric disorder, psychiatric complications of a medical illness, complicated neuropsychiatric syndromes, medical illnesses or symptoms thought to have significant psychiatric components, and patients with adjustment or compliance problems. During the time he directed the Consultation-Liaison Service, Dr. Slater created liaisons exist to a variety of inpatient clinical services in Children's Hospital, including the cardiac transplant, neurology, and hematology-oncology services. Psychiatric evaluations are a routine part of the clinical evaluations for heart and lung transplantation. Dr. Slater's book, entitled Tell Me Where it Hurts, which is a parenting book about somatization disorders in children, was published in the fall of 2002. In 2002, Dr. Slater also authored book chapters on psychopharmacology in medically ill children, psychiatric aspects of transplantation, and psychiatric issues in children with cancer. An article written by Dr. Slater entitled "Deciphering Emotional Aches and Physical Pains in Children" appeared in the June issue of Pediatric Annals. Lastly, in 2001, Dr. Slater created an after-school program geared specifically for children with special needs, which largely serves children with neuropsychiatric disorders in Irvington, New York, which served the community in Westchester County. Dr. Slater's contributions to education have been extensive. He teaches the Child Development course to the second-year P&S students (based on a chapter he wrote on Life Development for the textbook used in the second year medical student psychiatry course), does weekly attending rounds with pediatric house staff, and is the leader of a weekly preceptorship with the third-year P&S students rotating through the pediatric service. Dr. Slater teaches in the Foundations of Clinical Medicine course for P&S students in the first, second and major clinical years. Dr. Slater has been the recipient on numerous awards. As a Child Psychiatry Fellow, he was awarded the Viola Bernard Award on two occasions and used funding from this award to create a documentary film about children receiving heart transplants, which continues to be used by families awaiting heart transplantation. He later was the contributing producer for an HBO film, "Heart of a Child", which was a documentary about a girl who received a heart-lung transplantation. Dr. Slater's teaching efforts have been rewarded both at the medical center, when he received the Medical Student Teacher of the Year in 1997, and at the national level, when he received Nancy C.A. Roeske Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Student Education in May 2003 (awarded by the American Psychiatric Association). Dr. Slater has a private practice specializing in pediatric psychopharmacology in Irvington, New York.

Biography: Dennis Popeo, MD, MSc graduated from Union College before attending SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine (now called Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University). He trained in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, and subsequently worked there as an attending psychiatrist and Unit Chief of the geriatric psychiatry inpatient unit. After training in electroconvulsive therapy at Zucker Hillside Hospital, his role shifted to include providing ECT to the patients at Mount Sinai and participating in NIH-funded research that compared ECT treatment to treatment with medication.Dr. Popeo was recruited to NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital Center to revive Bellevue's dormant ECT program. As Director of ECT at Bellevue Hospital, he developed and expanded the ECT service. Over the course of the eight years of his tenure as director, the service grew to include six providers, and the number of treatments given increased by over 500%. At Bellevue, Dr. Popeo was also instrumental in creating a medical psychiatry inpatient unit that acts as a quaternary care referral source, serving the most medically and psychiatrically complex patients from all five boroughs of New York City and Long Island.Dr. Popeo has a long standing interest and expertise in medical education of trainees of all levels. He holds a Master of Science in Health / Science Professions Education from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. At Mount Sinai, he served as the Director of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry where he modernized and reorganized the curriculum from the ground up. At NYU Grossman, he converted the Inter-clerkship Intensive from low-rated, lecture-based course to a highly rated hands-on workshop / simulation course that drew material from across the curriculum. Barnhill, MD is DeWitt Wallace Senior Scholar and Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Medical Ethics at Weill Cornell Medicine.Dr. Barnhill is Vice Chair for Psychosomatic Medicine within the Department of Psychiatry, where he oversees the team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, psychiatric residents, medical students, and other trainees who work at the juncture between mental health and medical illness.This teamperforms psychiatric consultations throughout NYPH/Weill Cornell, NYPH/Lower Manhattan, and the Hospital for Special Surgery. Members of the team spearhed liaison work with three transplant services (heart, kidney, and liver) as well as oncology and rheumatology. Other members of the team have developed a collaborative care outpatient service for Weill Cornell Medicine and consult for Cornell Internal Medicine Associates (CIMA). All members of the psychosomatic medicine team are actively involved in teaching and clinical investigation.Dr. Barnhill is a site director for the NYPH/Weill Cornell Medicine geriatric psychiatry fellowship and was, until recently, site director for the Psychosomatic Medicine fellowship that is run jointly at NYPH/WCMC and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is also a Lecturer in Psychoanalysis at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.Dr. Barnhill is Director of the House Staff Mental Health Service at NYPH/Weill Cornell Medicine.
