Biography: Dr. Leavitt is a native of Arizona. He attended K-12 in the Gilbert public school system and later went on to ASU where he received a bachelor's degree in Spanish literature and linguistics. He is fluent in Spanish and has gone on several medical missions trips to Mexico where he has been able to treat underserved populations. He attended Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ for his medical school training. Upon completion of his medical degree he was accepted into a general surgery residency program at Beaumont Health in Detroit, Michigan through Michigan State University. Dr. Leavitt trained heavily in laparoscopic surgery, trauma surgery, colorectal surgery, hernia surgery, anti-reflux surgery, breast surgery, wound care, and endoscopy including EGD and colonoscopy. He is board certified to treat a wide range of medical conditions including disorders of the gallbladder, stomach, intestines, and colon. After successfully completing his 5-year residency he was accepted at Banner Gateway Weight Loss Center as a bariatric fellow for one year where he was dedicated to learning more about obesity and its surgical treatment. He presented some of his bariatric research at Obesity Week in Los Angeles and at the SAGES conference in Boston.
