Biography: Stephen Cheng, MD is a transplant surgeon at Medical City Abdominal Transplant & Hepatobiliary Specialists in Dallas. Dr. Cheng earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed both his general surgery internship and residency at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Cheng completed his multi-organ fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and he is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Cheng's clinical interests include liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation and surgical treatments of liver, bile duct, and pancreas tumors.

Biography: Juan Ortiz, MD is a board-certified transplant surgeon. Dr. Ortiz's clinical interests include liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, as well as hepatobiliary surgery. He is interested in health outcomes research, particularly in health care disparities. Dr. Ortiz is also interested in surgical resident and medical student education, and he was awarded the Resident as Teacher Award as a transplant surgery fellow at Northwestern. Dr. Ortiz received his Medical Degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine. Afterwards he joined the University of Arizona where he served as the Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in addition to his role as the Director of Hispanic Transplant Program. He has presented a wide range of research at various academic medicine gatherings, and he participated in Harvard Medical School's Visiting Research and Internship Program.Before joining North Texas Surgical and Transplant, Dr. Ortiz completed a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Washington. Dr. Ortiz speaks fluent English and Spanish. He believes that every patient should be treated as a whole unique individual with the utmost care and compassion. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ortiz enjoys playing soccer, reading and hiking.
