Biography: Dr. Ishaq Y. Syed grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and fellowship-trained in spine surgery. He received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University where he graduated as a member of Tau Beta Pi. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. He went on to complete his residency at Rush University Medical Center and his fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Ishaq Y. Syed actively participates in teaching orthopedic residents as well as conducting spine research. He is highly skilled in both traditional and minimally invasive surgeries. His scope of practice includes minimally invasive procedures, discectomy, disc replacement, traditional fusions, and scoliosis. Before coming to Dallas, he was practicing at Resurgens Orthopaedics in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Ramnath received his medical degree from North Eastern Ohio University, College of Medicine. He went on to do his orthopedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and his fellowship in spine surgery at the Texas Back Institute in Plano. Dr. Tompkins' research on brain and spine surgery has been presented at state and national neurosurgery meetings and has been published in the Journal of Neurosurgery. His areas of expertise include back and neck surgery including complex spinal instrumentation and minimally invasive spine procedures, treatment for neck and back pain, cranial surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, and the treatment of vascular malformations, aneurysms, and tumors. Dr. Tompkins is married to Dr. Melissa L. Tompkins, a pulmonary and critical care specialist. They have two daughters, Christina and Victoria.
