Biography: Dr. John Henneckenwas born in Manhattan and earned his undergraduate degree from Saint Johns University. Upon graduation, he was commissioned an officer in the United States Army. He received his medical degree with honors from S.U.N.Y. Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. He completed his internship and residency at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, where he was also a Chief Resident. He completed his cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at Yale University. After fellowship he served on active duty at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Upon leaving active duty, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. After FDA approval of this device, Dr. Hennecken was one of a small number of physicians authorized to train cardiologists in its use. He subsequently accepted an appointment as an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization labs and Interventional Cardiology at the Medical College of Georgia. He has been in private practice since 1995 and has served as Director of the Cardiac Catheterization labs and Chairman of the Department of Cardiology at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Since 2008, he has focused on general and preventive cardiology as well as cardiac imaging. Dr. Hennecken is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases. He was board certified in Interventional Cardiology from 1999-2009. He has additional current board certifications in Nuclear Cardiology, Echocardiography, Vascular Ultrasound, and Cardiac Computed Tomography. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. He has been married to Carol since 1981 and has four children, John, Christina, Kevin and Carolyn. He enjoys skiing, tennis, and sailing. He is happy to be back in New York where two of their children as well as other family and friends are living.

Care Philosophy: I am conservative on testing. I spend a lot of time on the initial interview and put in the time to retrieve all the patient's prior pertinent cardiac records. I prefer that the patients who come to see me have their own medical doctor with whom I can work with in caring for the patient.

Care Philosophy: I came to Cornell University Medical College In 1980 to start my Cardiology Fellowship training. There are many reasons I feel fortunate to have been able to continue at Weill Cornell Medical College. It has given me the opportunity to interact with an exceptional group of physicians, nurse practioners, and nurses in both cardiology and cardic surgery in a hospital which is equally well staffed in all other specialties. It has allowed me to do research in the area of regurgitant heart valve disease and to teach at many levels. Most of all it has made it possible for me to be part of a team capable of the highest level of care for any patient with cardiac disease. My highest recommendation is that , at my suggestion, many of my family and friends have come here for advanced care and I could not be more pleased with the results.

Care Philosophy: It is an exciting time to be a part of Cardiology as advances in technology and therapeutics allow us to provide better care to our patients. As a clinical cardiologist, my goal is to make a positive impact in the cardiovascular health and lives of my patients. In addition to cutting edge technology, I believe that practicing medicine should be individualized, patient centric, and hold true to the ideals of compassion and human dignity.

Care Philosophy: Most of my patients have heritable forms of heart disease such as Marfan syndrome, familial aortic aneurysm, and bicuspid aortic valve with associated aortic aneurysm. As such, despite being a subspecialist, I have had the opportunity to serve as a 'family doctor' and to care for multiple generations within families over many years. I feel very fortunate to have a clinical practice of relatively young, highly-informed, and motivated individuals with diseases for which there are now life-prolonging therapies.

Care Philosophy: As a cardiologist who specializes in heart rhythm abnormalities, I have witnessed dramatic changes in our understanding of arrhythmias and in treatment possibilities to improve health and longevity of our patients.Treatments that are now considered routine were unimaginable when I started my medical career. I am fortunate to have access to the latest advances in technology and a highly trained, professional team that shares a common goal of achieving optimal outcomes in patient care. But more importantly, my colleagues and I recognize that treating a patient with heart rhythm ailments requires attention not only to technical considerations but also to coping with the impact of arrhythmias on lifestyle and overall wellbeing. In this specialty, we have the ability to provide therapies that not only prolong life but also improve its quality. My practice is devoted to treatment of patients with arrhythmias, including rapid heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation and flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia. I also treat patients with abnormally slow heart rhythms (known as bradycardia). I perform interventional procedures aimed at alleviating these conditions, specifically catheter ablation, pacemaker implantation, defibrillator implantation, and cardiac resynchronization therapy.

His current work focuses on the the cellular and molecular mechanisms of ventricular outflow tract tachycardia. His laboratory has identified critical somatic mutations in the cAMP signal transduction cascade that mediate this form of ventricular tachycardia, thus introducing a new paradigm for the causation of ventricular tachycardia. He has been issued 4 patents. He clinical concentration focuses on the diagnosis and treatment (ablation) of complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, as well as on the treatment of life-threatening arrhythmias with implantable devices.
