He grew up in Salem and returned with his family in 1991 to practice orthopedics. Dr. Waldrop's medical training began at the University of Virginia, followed by orthopedic training at Emory University in Atlanta. To further his knowledge in orthopedics, Dr. Waldrop participated in a fellowship in shoulder/sports medicine at the University of Miami. Dr. Waldrop also maintains the honor of being a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Chen subsequently completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia followed by a fellowship in adult joint reconstruction surgery at the University of Florida.Dr. Chen specializes in minimally invasive, muscle-sparing hip and knee replacement surgery, including robotic total and partial knee replacement, direct anterior hip replacement, and revision hip and knee replacement. She completed a one-year internship and a four-year orthopedic surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a one-year adult reconstruction and sports medicine fellowship at Insall Scott Kelly Institute in New York, New York.As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Hakanson specializes in sports medicine, total joint replacements (hip, knee, and shoulder), partial knee replacement, arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, knee ligament reconstruction, autologous chondrocyte implantation, rotator cuff repair, fracture repair, and joint injections.
