Care Philosophy: I have expertise in stem cell / bone marrow transplantation, with over 25 years of experience in this field. I am the Associate Director of the Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Program of New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell. and the Service Chief of the inpatient BMT clinical service. I have major interests in improving the overall safety and effectiveness of transplantation. I also have significant experience in the management of hematological malignancies such as leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplasia, as well as aplastic anemia. I enjoy teaching residents and fellows management of patients undergoing transplantation and I have published articles in this field. I also review articles for medical journals relating to stem cell transplantation.I am involved in multiple research trials related to BMT, both as a principal and co investigator and I have represented NYP Weill Cornell at the Cancer Alliance Clinical Trials Group, the Myeloproliferative Disease Research group, and the BMT Clinical Trials Network. However, my main love is caring for patients; I enjoy meeting them, guiding them through the transplant process, and having a true doctor patient relationship. Biography: Amer Assal MD is a board certified medical oncologist and hematologist who specializes in the use of autologous and allogeneic bone marrow stem cell transplantation for the treatment of multiple myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes and other bone marrow disorders. Dr. Assal completed his medical education and internal medicine training at NYU School of Medicine. He was also a hospitalist in the department of medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center caring for patients with a variety of cancer diagnoses, including stem cell transplant patients. Dr. Assal completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he also served as chief fellow. He finally completed a fellowship in blood and marrow stem cell transplantation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His research interests center around improving outcomes of stem cell transplantation and the diseases it is used to treat. He has a particular interest in immunotherapy and studying ways to harness the immune system to attack tumor cells, while at the same time decreasing the risk of graft versus host disease. He is also interested in studying therapeutic interventions to prevent and treat relapse of disease after stem cell transplantation. He has presented his research at several national conferences and was awarded an American Society of Hematology Abstract Achievement award for his research.

Biography: Dr. Sanfilippo is a radiation oncologist with special interest in treatment of head and neck, thoracic, cutaneous, and genitourinary malignancies. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia and completed his residency training in radiation oncology at the University of Pennsylvania. He then spent an additional year of training in brachytherapy at the Gustave-Roussy Institute in Villejuif, France. Following a short time in private practice, Dr. Sanfilippo joined the faculty at New York University School of Medicine where he was a member of the disease management groups in head and neck, genitourinary, and melanoma services. He also served as Clinical Medical Director and later Vice Chair for Clinical Operations in the Department of Radiation Oncology. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology in 2014.Dr. Sanfilippo has authored numerous original reports, reviews, and textbook chapters. He is also co-authoring a textbook on intensity modulated radiation therapy. He has received numerous research grants from both private and public entities including the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Sanfilippo joined Weill Cornell Medicine in 2018 as Vice Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, Residency Program Director, and Director of Quality Assurance.

Biography: Dr. Tony Quach is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine practicing in NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Queens. He received his medical degree from Raymond & Ruth Perelman School of Medicine, completed his residency Orthopedic Surgery and fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Quach has a special interest in the treatment of disorders of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee, as well as arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery. Biography: Christopher Foglia, M.D., chief of the Colorectal Surgery section at NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in general and colorectal surgery. Dr. Foglia earned a B.S. degree from Cornell University in 1995 and his medical degree at the State University of New York Stony Brook School of Medicine in 1999. His post-doctoral training included five years of surgical residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, as well as a one-year research residency at Weill Cornell Medical Center and a one-year fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr. Foglia went on to join the staff at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT, where he held the academic appointment of clinical assistant professor of surgery at both New York Medical College and the University of Vermont College Of Medicine. During that period, he was named a Top Doctor in the state by Connecticut Magazine and has been the recipient of several excellence in teaching awards from these academic medical institutions. Dr. Foglia joined New York-Presbyterian/Queens in 2013. In addition to his active clinical practice in colon and rectal surgery, he directs the surgical residency program overseeing the training of 31 surgical residents each year. He participates in research and has been a co-author of peer-reviewed studies published in Surgical Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Dr. Foglia's clinical interests are in minimally invasive and robotic surgery as it relates to the treatment of colorectal conditions such as cancer, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Additionally he takes care of common proctologic problems such as hemorrhoids, fissures and anal fistulae.
