Care Philosophy: Cardiac Electrophysiology is exciting because the therapies can dramatically improve our patients' lives. I look forward to coming to work every day so that I can help deliver this cutting-edge treatment. At the same time, the most rewarding part of my job is the opportunity to guide each patient through their condition in an understandable way so that she/he can actively participate in our treatment plan. My belief is to treat each patient with clarity, care, and compassion - the same way that I would want my family to be treated.

I am fortunate to work at an institution that enables me to care for patients within an outstanding hospital and medical college, where I am surrounded by like-minded physicians and staff that are most concerned about the well-being of our patients and their family members. The close relationships I develop with my patients and the continued efforts by my colleagues and me to find a cure inspire me to come to work every day with new hope and determination.

Care Philosophy: I am a neurosurgeon with clinical activities focused upon the usage of minimally invasive, stereotactic techniques for the treatment of functional disorders such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and epilepsy. I also use surgical methods to implant devices such as spinal cord stimulators and opiate pumps to treat complex pain, and I am a expert in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia and hydrocephalus. I have pioneered the use of gene therapy in the brain and have published more than 40 papers and edited two books on this subject. I recently completed the first clinical trial of gene therapy for Parkinson's disease for FDA approval, and my laboratory is actively researching mechanisms of cell death in diseases such as Parkinson's and Huntington's. I am the recipient of numerous awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Gene Therapy and was named to Crain's '40 under 40' list for 2004. I currently serve on the editorial boards of several journals, and am the editor for the Web site of the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. I am also a member of the Committee on Admissions at Weill Cornell Medical College and am an adjunct professor at The Rockefeller University.

Care Philosophy: After having earned my Ph.D. in Neuroscience, I became fascinated by the intricacies and processes of the central nervous system, and the role a neurosurgeon plays in tracing them. I realized that neurosurgeons are responsible for far more than surgical intervention. We play a critical role in getting our patients back to living normal lives, with healthy brain function. That's why I went on to earn an M.D. degree as well. I consider it an honor to treat patients with brain tumors and cerebrovascular disorders. The challenges are immense, but I get the daily satisfaction of helping patients get back to the families, and their lives.
