Biography: Dr. Darwin Chen is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital, in the Leni and Peter W. May Department of Orthopaedics. He specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee as well as hip preservation. Dr. Chen received his undergraduate degree with honors from Stanford University. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. At Mount Sinai, he was selected as the administrative chief resident during his final year of residency, an honor bestowed by his mentors and peers. In addition, he received the prestigious Dr. Robert Sieffert Award three times during residency for his outstanding academic achievements and clinical excellence. Dr. Chen completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction/joint replacement at Rush University Medical Center, widely regarded as one of the top adult reconstruction fellowships in the country. At Rush, he trained with the pioneers and leaders of the field, including Drs. Wayne Paprosky, Aaron Rosenberg, Joshua Jacobs, Richard Berger, Craig Della Valle, and Scott Sporer. During his fellowship, Dr. Chen gained extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery as well as complex and revision arthroplasty. Following Rush, Dr. Chen completed further subspecialty training in hip preservation surgery as a part of a unique traveling hip fellowship at top centers in the US and Europe. He trained at Saint John's Health Center in Los Angeles with Dr. Joel Matta, Washington University in Saint Louis with Dr. John Clohisy, Schulthess Klinik in Zurich, Switzerland with Dr. Michael Leunig, and Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland. Dr. Darwin Chen specializes in hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive surgery, as well as complex and revision arthroplasty. He performs partial knee replacement, as well as direct anterior hip replacement using the innovative hana® orthopaedic table. In addition, he has a special interest in hip preservation surgery, performing periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) and surgical hip dislocation. Academically, Dr. Chen is part of the core teaching faculty at Mount Sinai, and regularly lectures and teaches at the orthopaedic residency program. He has been a guest speaker at multiple national meetings and has written numerous peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His clinical research interests include the influence of surgical approach (direct anterior vs. mini-posterior) on the outcomes of total hip arthroplasty.

Biography: Neal S. Parikh, M.D., M.S., RPNI, is a Neurologist at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he serves as the Director of Outpatient Stroke and Vascular Neurology Services.After receiving a B.A. from Yale College, he received his M.D. from Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed residency in Adult Neurology and served as Chief Resident at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in neuro-epidemiology and vascular neurology at The Neurological Institute at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, during which he received an M.S. in epidemiology from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. He is board certified in Adult Neurology and Vascular Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also certified as a Registered Physician in Neurovascular Interpretation (RPNI) by the American Society of Neuroimaging.Dr. Parikh's clinical expertise is in vascular neurology. He provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to patients with stroke, transient ischemic attack, and other vascular neurology conditions. Common conditions treated in his outpatient practice are stroke, transient ischemic attack, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, dissection, venous sinus thrombosis, abnormal vascular findings on brain imaging, and vascular cognitive impairment/dementia. He takes a keen interest in identifying and addressing uncommon causes of stroke in young adults. In the hospital setting, he additionally treats patients with other neurological emergencies and conditions that require hospital admission or that occur in patients hospitalized with other illnesses.His research focuses on 1) the complex interplay between medical conditions and brain health, and 2) stroke epidemiology and prevention. He has published numerous studies demonstrating a link between liver conditions and stroke and cognitive impairment. Another major focus is optimizing smoking cessation in the stroke secondary prevention setting and for patients with neurological disorders.His work has been published in leading journals such as JAMA Neurology, Neurology, Stroke, European Journal of Neurology, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, Alzheimer's & Dementia. His research is currently supported by the NIH/NIA and Florence Gould Foundation. Other recent support include the New York State Department of Health Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program and the Leon Levy Foundation in Neuroscience. He serves on the editorial board of Stroke and the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. Last, a regular participant in the annual Neurology on the Hill legislative advocacy event, and a former participant and advisor in the AAN Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum, he is deeply committed to improving population health through media engagement and advocacy.

Biography: Dr. Galatz is the Mount Sinai Professor and Chair of the Leni and Peter May Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Icahn School of Medicine at the Mount Sinai Health System in New York. She specializes in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, with expertise in Sports and Reconstructive procedures including instability, rotator cuff disorders, and joint replacement. She words with a multidisciplinary team to address patient needs encompassing operative and nonoperative management. Her primary research interest throughout her career has been basic science of rotator cuff disease and tendon healing as it pertains to cuff repair. She is a Co-Primary Investigator on two major projects funded by the National Institute of Health which focus on rotator cuff degeneration and repair, and tissue engineering strategies for tendon repair. Her research is complemented with clinical projects with her colleagues on Shoulder and Elbow problems. Dr. Galatz lectures in numerous courses on a national and international level each year, lecturing on a variety of clinical topics pertaining to Shoulder and Elbow pathology. Dr. Galatz received the 2021 Women's Leadership Forum Award from the Orthopedic Research Society. Dr. Galatz is listed in New York Magazine Top Doctors 2018-2020, Castle Connolly America's Top Doctors 2018-2021, and Top Doctors New York Metro Area 2016-2021. She was awarded one of the Exceptional Women in Medicine 2019-2020. In 2019, she received the Notable Women in Healthcare Award by Crain's New York Business. She was the recipient of the Neer award for Basic Science Research at the American Shoulder and ElbowSurgeons Open Meeting in 2009. Dr. Galatz received the 2014 Kappa Delta Ann Doner Award along with her colleagues for research on the natural history of rotator cuff disease. In 2007, she was a European Shoulder and ElbowTraveling Fellow, sponsored by American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and was an American British Canadian Traveling Fellow in 2009.Dr. Galatz serves on the Executive Committee of the Mount Sinai Faculty Practice. She is Chair of the Contracts Committee of the Faculty Practice, and is on the Board the Mount Sinai IPA.
