Biography: Dr. Sierra Seaman is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in the Division of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery, specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of complex gynecologic conditions, including fibroids, endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, intrauterine pathology, pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, and infertility with a special interest in fertility optimization. After earning her medical degree at the University of Virginia, she completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as her Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Complex Gynecologic Conditions at CUIMC. She received several awards during this time including the prestigious Jay M. Cooper Foundation of the AAGL Signature Award, the AAGL award for Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery, the Excellence in Teaching Award, induction into the Gold Humanism Honors Society, and a 100K grant for the Future of Robotics. Dr. Aubey serves as Medical Director of the Postpartum Service at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. As a front-line practitioner and researcher by training, she is actively involved in obstetric simulation, protocol development and the re-design efforts for labor and delivery and the postpartum service. Simulation in obstetrics allows medical team members to re-create emergencies such as shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and hypertensive crisis in order to critically evaluate practices. These exercises ultimately lead to improved team coordination preparedness.
