Dr. Garcia-Pena was born and raised on the island of Puerto Rico and is a native Spanish speaker. He received a bachelor's degree in Biology from the prestigious University of Chicago and then obtained a Master's degree in Medical Sciences and Research from Boston University. He then returned home to Puerto Rico to continue his lifelong dream of practicing medicine and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Dr. Garcia-Pena completed his residency program in Orthopedic Surgery at one of the busiest trauma hospitals in the Caribbean and well-known throughout the region: the Medical Sciences Center from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.Dr. Garcia-Pena completed his fellowship training at the Baylor College of Medicine and Ironman Sports Medicine Institute in Houston, Texas. Dr. Garcia-Pena served as assistant to the Team Physician of the Houston Texans, Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, Houston Dynamo, University of Houston Athletics, and area high schools.Dr. Garcia-Pena specializes in arthroscopic procedures and joint reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee with particular interest in sports medicine and helping patients maintain an active lifestyle.
