Biography: Dr. Matthew Piazza, MD, is a board-eligible neurological surgeon specializing in the surgical treatment of neurologic conditions affecting the spine and brain. He treats the breadth of conditions of the spine including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine degenerative disease, ankylosing spinal conditions, adult degenerative spinal deformity, spine trauma, and spinal tumors using the latest advances in surgical technology utilizing both minimally invasive and traditional open approaches. Aulisi, MD, FAANS, FACS, is the chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and serves as medical director of the MedStar Neuroscience Intermediate Care Unit. He is also the medical director of the MedStar Pituitary Center with decades of experience in pituitary surgery using both open and endoscopic surgical approaches. Dr. Aulisi is a nationally known expert in spine surgery. Biography: A native Virginian, Dr. Amanda Trucksess attended The College of William and Mary where she was a member of their Division I swim team. With a strong interest in athletics as well as human biomechanics and physiology, Dr. Trucksess graduated cum laude with a major in kinesiology. She went on to earn her medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond where she was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Following medical school, she completed a four year residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (known as physiatry) is a sub-specialty of medicine that focuses on the restoration of function and the non-operative treatment of nerve, muscle, and bone disorders. Dr. Trucksess chose this specialty because it allowed her to integrate her interest in human physiology with her passion for patient care.
