Biography: Christine Townsend, MD is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine. Biography: John A. Buza, MD, MS, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Queens. He specializes in conditions of the spine, with a focus on minimally invasive techniques and advanced technology using computer navigation. Dr. Buza treats patients with diseases and disorders, including adult scoliosis, herniated disk, spine arthritis, cancer of the spine, sciatica, and addresses fractures, infections, injury, and pain. Dr. Buza graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons with his Master's in Human Nutrition and remained there to complete his medical degree. He completed his internship at Massachusetts's General Hospital, neurology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, and vascular neurology fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Mir is board certified in Neurology and Psychiatry and is an expert in vascular and inpatient neurology. He was also chosen as a LEAD Fellow at New York Presbyterian Hospital where he will focus on becoming a leader in patient experience and patient reported outcomes.

I also use surgical methods to implant devices such as spinal cord stimulators and opiate pumps to treat complex pain, and I am a expert in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia and hydrocephalus. I have pioneered the use of gene therapy in the brain and have published more than 40 papers and edited two books on this subject. I recently completed the first clinical trial of gene therapy for Parkinson's disease for FDA approval, and my laboratory is actively researching mechanisms of cell death in diseases such as Parkinson's and Huntington's. I am the recipient of numerous awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Gene Therapy and was named to Crain's '40 under 40' list for 2004.
