Biography: Derec Stanislav, DO is a fellowship trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine focusing on complex knee and shoulder pathology along with general orthopedics. He completed his Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. During his fellowship, he honed his expertise in advanced techniques for treating sports-related injuries, arthroscopic surgery, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. He was the Head Team Physician for Second Baptist High School and an Associate Team Physician for the Houston Sabercats of Major League Rugby. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Stanislav undertook his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Kansas City University/HCA Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was trained extensively in the surgical management of orthopedic conditions encompassing sports medicine, total joint arthroplasty, and trauma. During his residency, he obtained the highest orthopedic in-service training exam score in his class three years in a row. He was selected as Chief Resident by his residency faculty tasked with administrative duties overseeing the entire residency program on top of his clinical requirements. Most notably, he was awarded the Bob Green Memorial Award, which is awarded annually to one member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics who achieved the highest combined score in the written and oral certification examinations for the prior year. He completed his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) with Magna Cum Laude honors at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. Before medical school, Dr. Stanislav earned a Master's in Biomedical Sciences (M.S.) with the highest honors of Summa Cum Laude from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas. He also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Basic Exercise Physiology with a minor in Business, earning Cum Laude honors from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. While in undergrad, he was in the Corps of Cadets, Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, and multi-year captain of the Corps of Cadets Baseball Team. With a unique blend of Osteopathic training, advanced surgical skills, and a background as a former athlete, Dr. Stanislav provides outstanding, personalized care to his patients. His impressive academic achievements, leadership roles, and commitment to advancing the field of Orthopedic Surgery make him a standout in his profession. He is passionate about Sports Medicine and remains actively involved in Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Societies (AOSSM, AANA, AOAO) to stay current in the ever-evolving field of Orthopedic Surgery. He values work-life balance and enjoys spending time with his family. He is married and has a son, who have been his biggest supporters throughout his medical journey. As a native Texan, he enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. Being a former athlete, he's an avid sports fan and enjoys playing baseball, softball, and golf.
