Biography: Preston Waldrop, MD, FAAOS, a board-certified and fellowship trained surgeon with LewisGale Physicians in Salem, Virginia has provided care to residents in the Roanoke Valley for more than 32 years. He grew up in Salem and returned with his family in 1991 to practice orthopedics. Dr. Waldrop's medical training began at the University of Virginia, followed by orthopedic training at Emory University in Atlanta. He has a history of academic excellence, graduating with honors from the highly competitive combined undergraduate and medical degree program at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Chen subsequently completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia followed by a fellowship in adult joint reconstruction surgery at the University of Florida.Dr. Chen specializes in minimally invasive, muscle-sparing hip and knee replacement surgery, including robotic total and partial knee replacement, direct anterior hip replacement, and revision hip and knee replacement. Biography: Robyn Hakanson, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Salem, Virginia.Dr. Hakanson graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. She completed a one-year internship and a four-year orthopedic surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a one-year adult reconstruction and sports medicine fellowship at Insall Scott Kelly Institute in New York, New York.As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Hakanson specializes in sports medicine, total joint replacements (hip, knee, and shoulder), partial knee replacement, arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, knee ligament reconstruction, autologous chondrocyte implantation, rotator cuff repair, fracture repair, and joint injections. She is board-certified by the America Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and an active Fellow with the American Associate of Hip and Knee Surgeons.Dr. Hakanson has more than 30 years experience in sports medicine. Dr. Patterson graduated with honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology earning a bachelor of science in Microbiology and a certificate in Industrial Psychology. Following his undergraduate work, he earned his medical doctorate at the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta. He completed two residencies, the first in internal medicine at University of South Carolina and the second in orthopedic surgery at University of Florida-Shands, Jacksonville. Dr. Patterson also achieved a fellowship in orthopedic adult reconstruction at OrthoCarolina, in Charlotte. Dr. Patterson is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). He has more than 16 years of experience in all areas of Orthopedics, specializing in hip and knee reconstructions, both primary and revision. Dr. Patterson has a passion for teaching and has taught students, residents and fellows.
