Dr. Sean Mayfield, MD

On August 16, 2023, Dr. Mayfield performed a sigmoid colon resection robotically and at the same time Dr Amelia Jernigan performed a full hysterectomy. Bottom line, it was a complicated case, I’m recovering well and the outcome was nothing less than excellent.

Had a hemorrhoidectomy to remove internal and external hemorrhoids. Very painful recovery, but completely normal. Dr. Mayfield was helpful and clear about what to expect. The surgery healed in about 6-8 weeks with return to work after 2 weeks. He and his staff were very nice.

My appointment with Dr. Mayfield was more than I could have hoped for. Even before I arrived for the appointment, his staff was informative, courteous and so caring in their interactions by phone and at the office. He had all my referral testing done by my gastroenteroligist handy to refer to during the visit. He tolerated me being accompanied not only by my spouse, but also by my daughter who just wanted to make sure nothing was lost in our informing her of the results of the visit. He spent time with us before and after the examination and readily shared what he believed would be his initial recommendations for treatment. He took the lead on my case to present it to a group of colleagues (after asking my permission) before referring me to a oncologist, hematologist and radiation specialist. Two years later I remain cancer free and thank all of my physicians for their excellent care.

Excellent. I had a procedure with Dr. Mayfield and he explained everything in detail before. He and his courteous staff made sure I understood and followed all instructions. He had great bedside manners. After the procedure, I got a easy to understand explanation of the findings. Would recommend him to family and friends.

I am still having problems years later after Dr. Mayfield did my surgery. I got an infection immediately postop that was not treated properly for several months, until I switched surgeons. I recently found out that the initial surgery that Dr. Mayfield assured me he had significant experience with was performed incorrectly, and that this resulted in the many issues I have had since. I have had several surgeries to fix the mess, and I would never want anyone I cared about to go to him.
