I can’t say enough about Dr. Austerman and the Center for Neurosciences. From initial appointment to the prompt surgery scheduling all the way to the post-op followup appointment, everything was great. The surgery itself gave me instant relief for nearly all of the acute pain caused by nerve compression. I say nearly because there is still plenty of healing for my body to do on its own but the important bit here is that it is all on-track and known, consistent with the expectations communicated by Dr. Austerman for my specific circumstances.Be realistic about the complexities of your condition but as for choosing a surgeon, absolutely go see Dr. Austerman for a consultation. He has completely changed my life for the better after ten years of back pain and the more recent, acute symptoms that required more urgent intervention.

Excellent Neurosurgeon
I'm so grateful that I was referred to Dr. Austerman for a surgical consult for atypical trigeminal neuralgia that was not getting adequately relieved from nerve blocks and medications. Dr. Austerman was really clear the whole way through explaining how a trigeminal rhizotomy, via percutaneous balloon compression on the ganglion, could help my facial pain, about what would happen during surgery, what to expect, and the outcomes possible. I'm so glad I went through with the surgery and didn't wait any longer! His bed side manner is calming, and he carefully listens to and informs his patients with relevant information. I fully recommend Dr. Austerman to anyone who might need his help.

Fantastic neurosurgeon
I had a deep brain stimulation procedure from Dr. Austerman and really put me at ease both before and during the surgery. He was very good at explaining everything to me, and very patient with my questions. A very good listener among other things. I would absolutely without hesitation recommend him.

Amazing neurosurgeon in Tucson!!! I was suffering from a pinched nerve in my neck for over 5 months from a degenerative disc in my C6-C7. I first saw Dr. Austerman at the Center for Neurosciences and he was so knowledgeable and confidant in everything that he was explaining to me. I felt very confidant with the procedure that he wanted to do. We talked about options for my neck and was willing to listen to any of my concerns and we decided together to do a disc replacement instead of a ACDF fusion. I had a 3hr surgery (with a complete disk replacement) and have had zero plan from the procedure and was back to work in 1 week. Dr. Austerman in absolutely amazing and is so knowledgably with all the new technology in the neurology field. I give him a 100 out of 10. Highly recommended!!!! Do not suffer like I did and call Dr. Austerman!!! Jamie
