Dr. Randal Atkinson, MD

I’m a young person, first major surgery (ex. laparoscopy/ablation). To start, Dr. Atkinson was not informed about my conditions, medications, etc, despite doing a phone intake with a different anesthesiologist the week prior. Our only interaction before surgery was brief and rushed.My biggest complaint is that he gave no warning/countdown when administering the IV medicines to knock me out- despite literally shaking from anxiety. Not sure if this is standard or not, but I was not given any pain medication prior to waking up from the procedure. I went into surgery scared, and woke up screaming in pain and confusion.Overall this was a terrifying experience for my first major procedure. Just a little more patience and compassion from him would have made such a difference. I hope he can improve for future patients someday. Until then, I recommend avoiding, especially if you suffer from anxiety/medical trauma.

My husband had a total knee replacement and unfortunately he was awake and in pain during the surgery. During his first knee replacement surgery in Feb 2016, he was asleep and intubated. Everything went well. This surgery 12/29 he was given a spinal, which was not suppose to happen. Unfortunately, he heard and felt many parts of the procedure. It bothered him so much he requested ear plugs and was denied. Under NO circumstances will we use or recommend this anesthesiologist or his group.
