Dr. Niels Johnsen, MD

Dr. Johnson performed what usually called a urethral reroute and as a transgender patient he made it look very feminine for me and the function is outstanding. I’m able to freely use the bathroom again. So excellent function and amazing visual appeal. I’ll be back to him for a vaginoplasty.

Just as all other physicians at Vandy that I see for my care.There are none better.

This was my first time to see Dr. Johnsen. As stated earlier, I waited for over a month to get an appointment. It was worth the wait in that he was the "standard bearer" in what I consider a quality, medical professional.

First time meeting Dr. Johnson. Was very impressed. I would recommend him.

I went to Vanderbilt for a prostate biopsy in 2020, and as a result, was hospitalized for 3 days with a blood infection (sepsis). After getting released, I developed residual pain and was sent to Dr. Johnsen for a consultation. He was dismissive and curt, and saw no need to arrange any exploratory treatment. He told me he didn't think I had anything serious. It turned out my condition was quite serious. My prostate was severely infected—I found this out only after going to a different doctor. I learned that my condition is called 'prostatitis' is fairly common side-effect after my infection. Dr. Johnsen never mentioned the possibility of prostatitis (or that there are clinics/physical therapy to help). Quite honestly, I felt he believed I was making up my symptoms.

Inserted an artificial urinary Sphincter. Wonderful job

MD would not add a diagnostic code to cover sons office visits so insurance denied claims. Would have taken 5 minutes of his time to do so . We filed appeals and spent almost a year with no luck. Would let him see anyone in my family again
