Simply the Best - EXCEPTIONAL!!
Both my daughter and I see Dr Amy Mulcaster. She is the best! She is thorough, patient, takes her time and makes sure she's totally tuned in to what you are seeing her for, concerns and NEVER makes you feel rushed. My very-selective, 15-year-old, doesn't-like-any-doctors daughter thinks she's the best doctor on the planet. Her assistant Harlee was also super helpful. Exceptional is how I'd describe this physician.

The best gynecologist I’ve had in 25 years.
Dr Mulcaster is the best gynecologist I’ve had in many many years. I’d give her ten stars if I could. She takes the time to answer all my questions in a simple clear manner so I’m never left wondering what she meant. She’s very kind, patient and caring and often goes over our allotted time answering my questions. If Dr Mulcaster hadn’t ordered a bone density test for me I’d never would’ve known I had really bad osteoporosis and I’m only 65. My primary care doctor has never even bothered. I highly recommend her to everyone.

I have a similar complaint as others: abysmal bedside manner and outright misdiagnosis. Dr Mulcaster insisted I had something that I didn’t, without so much as a test to confirm (my correct Dx was established by other docs, tests, and follow ups since), but to be so sure when you are so wrong is truly frightening. In this case, it could have been devastating, but since I didn’t fully trust her because a. she didn’t listen to me, b. was arrogant, and c. declared my previous doc had clearly been “wrong” without even verifying anything (what doc does that?), when it was Mulcaster who was the wrong one. I knew not to stop there. Strange choice for Portland Clinic’s new CMO, but maybe it’s because it removes her from direct interaction with patients. One has to wonder.

Dr Mulcaster insisted that I was not in enough pain to have endometriosis. I moved and found a new OB GYN, who listened to me and, with laparoscopic surgery, confirmed that I have endometriosis. She removed my ovaries and I am no longer in constant pain! Dr Mulcaster did not listen or care!

Until now I am stressed by cold and unprofessional approach of this doc. several years ago . When with no labs she calmly announced that I have CA and just send referral to US and mammogram. No doubt, no ampathy . I was crying, she just turned around and closed the door. All visit about 10min.

I am a Portland Clinic fan, and I was surprised and dissapointed at my experience with Dr. Mulcaster. Dr. Mulcaster was cold, uncaring and completely unsympathetic as I explained the excrutiating pain I had been experiencing after a procedure that she had performed on me. She just said "no one else ever has a problem with it", and dismissed me. I felt completely stupid and like a hypochondriac. I went to another gynecologist, who did an exam on me and identified that I had a cyst that was causing my problems. Dr. Mulcaster was cold, dismissive, uncaring and didn't listen.....

I don't understand the other posters that say she didn't listen or was condescending. She is direct and very informative. She always takes time to listen and she is very good at what she does. All of my daughters see her too and love her.

Agree with another poster that she is very condescending and dismissive. Makes you feel very stupid and doesn't listen to patients. Very Pro IUD for any type of period issues. She wasn't able to diagnose that I had pelvic organ prolapse (uterine, cystocele and rectocele) despite me telling her and my PCP that something was wrong.

I don't have an extensive or varied medical history. I see Dr. Mulcaster for yearly exams, and it's always gone very well. If I come with a specific concern, she is quick to find a solution. She is direct and doesn't pussyfoot around testing/treatment options. I also never feel judged for my questions or concerns. It's great to get a straight forward answer and not spend time (and money!) playing 20 questions.

Dismissive, smug, and condescending. She has a frightening ability to insult you to your face while never breaking the compassionate doctor act. Actual conversation: Me: Is it normal for sex to cause pain? I feel like I've been punched. Dr: It's normal for YOU. You must have a low pain tolerance. And if you don't want an IUD, good luck getting anywhere else with her.

No bedside manner, ordered unnecessary (and very painful) testing that came back negative. Never followed up on routine care for PCOS and dismissed anything that she didn't recognize as a problem. Seemed only interested in getting me pregnant (making more money). A extremely flat personality that lacks the ability to treat people as fellow human beings. Do yourself a favor and see someone else, it's not worth it and she doesn't care about her patients.
