Biography: I was born and raised in south Florida. I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Florida and my medical degree at the University of Central Florida. I traded Florida's hot summers for Chicago's famously cold winters when I went on to complete my neurology residency and a clinical multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuroimmunology fellowship at the University of Chicago. I'm ecstatic to be back on the East Coast, now that I'm living and practicing in Wilmington, North Carolina. \n As a child, I always wanted to be a physician. Although my desired specialty at that time was pediatrics, I had a genuine interest in helping others, which led me to a career in medicine. Neurology is a specialty that is complex and requires time, patience and ability to think critically and analyze information. The most rewarding aspect of being a neurologist is utilizing the tools of history, examination and imaging to localize and provide patients with both answers to their questions and management of their specific diagnoses. I have personal ties to MS, which adds further enthusiasm and passion for practicing in this specific field. \n When not at work, I love spending quality time with my husband and our young daughter.

Biography: My mother's long nursing career was very rewarding for her, and seeing her fulfillment from helping others inspired me to become a nurse. \n I started my career at Novant Health more than 15 years ago as a nursing assistant. After earning my bachelor's degree in nursing, I worked in the neonatal intensive care unit before returning to school for a master's degree in nursing. I'm now a family nurse practitioner with a specialty in pediatric neurology. \n I have a keen interest - and additional certifications - in epilepsy, sleep medicine and neurodevelopmental disorders. I'm trained in how to conduct diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum disorder. \n Fostering relationships with my patients and their families is the most rewarding part of my job. In pediatric neurology, we diagnose and manage a wide range of conditions, some easily treatable and some chronic. Being a supportive presence for families - regardless of what their journey entails - will always be the cornerstone of my practice. \n Advocacy and education are other key components of my practice. I believe parents and caregivers know their child better than anyone and feel it's my job to provide them with the information and resources necessary to make the decision they feel is best for their child and the family. I place a lot of emphasis on the health of the whole family and always want parents to feel supported, validated and cared for. \n Having a child with a complex medical condition touches every facet of life, and there's no handbook on how to navigate the accompanying challenges. Knowing you have someone in your corner you can turn to for support can make a world of difference. \n Outside work, I love spending time with my family and our "fur babies," boating, cooking and traveling.
