The ability to work closely with patients and with specialists in a variety of fields to solve complex clinical questions draws me to the field of non-malignant hematology. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to train under brilliant thinkers and exceptional role models from whom I have learned the importance of ensuring that each patient truly understands his or her diagnosis and the rationale behind treatment. I am excited to be joining the Department of Hematology at Weill Cornell and look forward to continuing in clinical investigations in hopes of improving diagnosis and treatment in the fields of thrombosis and immune thrombocytopenia. My first priority is the patient sitting in front of me. I have a longstanding interest in cancer care and have been specifically focused on lymphoma since my father was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma when I was a medical student. At Weill Cornell, our experienced team of lymphoma specialists works together to determine the most appropriate therapy for each individual patient. Our group has played a key role in the development of many new therapies approved for lymphoma in recent years. As a result, our patients have early access to new and promising lymphoma treatments. We are fortunate to have a strong team of physician assistants, nurses, medical technicians, pharmacists, and administrative staff. This environment enables me to provide my patients with the best possible level of care.

Dr. Kelly Greening graduated from Michigan State University. She received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan. She completed her Residency and Internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical College and joined Weill Cornell Medicine in 1996. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Greening's practice focuses on the outpatient management of Gynecologic patients as well as the care of pregnant women in the outpatient setting. When her patients are hospitalized they are cared for and delivered by our expert team of Laborists who specialize in the Labor and Delivery aspects of Obstetrical care.

One of the most gratifying aspects of practicing at Weill Cornell has been the close collaborations with talented clinicians and scientists in the diagnosis and management of complex blood disorders. In my new role, I look forward to providing the same personal care to my patients utilizing the latest diagnostic tools and therapeutic modalities to improve patient outcomes.

Christine A. Garcia, M.D., M.P.H. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Garcia cares for patients with lung cancer and patients with non-malignant (benign) hematological conditions. Additionally, she is the Director of Quality and Patient Safety and serves as the Chair of the Oncology Quality and Patient Safety Committee.Dr. Garcia received her undergraduate B.S. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received her M.P.H. from University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to medical school, Dr. Garcia worked for the County of San Diego Health and Human Services and University of California San Diego. She received her medical degree from St. George's University with a Distinction in Research. She then received her internal medicine training at State University of New York at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she also served as a chief resident. Dr. Garcia completed her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.Dr. Garcia's research is focused on quality improvement initiatives in cancer care. Additionally, she is the recipient of two American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Awards in Palliative Care and Quality Care for her research related to quality improvement initiatives. She is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology (ASH), American College of Physicians (ACP) and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

After gaining valuable experience in a private practice setting in Lower Manhattan, Dr. Kramer is excited to begin working and teaching in the place where she herself acquired the skills and lessons essential to providing women with exceptional care. She specializes in a variety of gynecologic issues ranging from management of abnormal Pap smears to family planning and contraception. She has a particular interest in the care and education of young women about their contraceptive options, including IUDs and Nexplanon devices. Dr. Kramer prides herself on creating a comfortable and trusting atmosphere for patients who may find the experience of visiting the gynecologist to be intimidating. In addition, Dr. Kramer specializes in a variety of minimally invasive surgeries for relief of polyps, fibroids and other gynecologic conditions. She also truly enjoys the privilege of providing excellent prenatal care and helping young couples along their journey to parenthood.

"I believe that pregnancy is a natural if unique phase in a woman's life. My job is to assure that each pregnancy is proceeding normally and intervene if it is not. Many pregnancies are medically straightforward. Some, such as twins or triplets, may be complex from the outset. In others, problems such as high blood pressure or pre-term labor may develop. I am fortunate to practice at the Weill Cornell campus of the New York Presbyterian Hospital where the latest technologies and superbly trained specialists are only a few steps or a phone call away. I still find each pregnancy and delivery extraordinary and exciting. "I chose to practice Ob/Gyn because I am able to care for women through the many stages of their reproductive lives. During my years of training and practice, I have developed several areas of special interest and expertise within gynecology. These include: - Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery including laparoscopic hysterectomy - Management and treatment (medical and surgical)of uterine fibroids - Evaluation and treatment of abnormal PAP smears Advances in pharmacology and surgical technology now offer multiple avenues for treatment of these and other gynecologic problems. I eduacte and work with my patients to help each one choose the most appropriate treatment path for her."

Dr. Landres offers expertise in all aspects of high risk obstetrics, performs obstetric ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis procedures including amniocentesis, and cerclage placement. Her special interests include management of diabetes in pregnancy, hypertensive disorders, autoimmune disorders and fetal growth restriction. Dr. Landres is committed to providing high quality, compassionate care and supporting her patients throughout pregnancy and post-partum.

Dr. Pri-Paz has stated that the move to join the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College under the guidance of Dr. Frank Chervenak, the Department Chair, is a natural one for him. Dr. Pri-Paz believes in working with his patients to develop a relationship centered around the primary focus of their health. He strives to accomplish this by open communication--listening to patients' needs and providing them with the necessary information and care--so they can make the best possible choices and receive the best possible care.

Imo J. Akpan, M.D. graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Chemistry. Prior to enrolling in medical school she was involved in iron biology research at the Children's Hospital Boston where she helped to describe a mouse-model for anemia of inflammation by studying the role of hepcidin in iron homeostasis. Dr. Akpan received her medical degree from The University of Illinois (UIC) at Chicago College of Medicine and received "The Michael and Kate Brny Research Award" for research supported by the American Society of Hematology and the UIC Craig Research Award. Dr. Akpan then enrolled in the Physician-Scientist Training Program at Northwestern University/McGaw Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois where she did her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology. Subsequently, she did an Advanced Hematology/Oncology Research fellowship as a K12 Physician Scientist Scholar at The University of Chicago Medical Center where she also worked as a Clinical Instructor. Dr. Akpan's clinical and research expertise spans several blood disorders, including anemia (any type of anemia in addition to auto immune hemolytic anemia), iron disorders (high iron levels and iron deficiency), sickle cell disease, thalassemia, PNH, platelet disorders including ITP, high hemoglobin, high platelet, white blood cell disorders and, bleeding and clotting disorders including Anti phospholipid antibody syndrome. Dr. Akpan provides consultation for patients with complex bleeding or clotting issues undergoing surgeries and blood disorders in patients with a history of bariatric surgery. She works closely with her pregnant patients and works closely with obstetricians and other members of the inter-disciplinary team. Dr. Akpan co-leads the Women's clinic for blood disorders at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, a dedicated clinic for women experiencing blood disorders including heavy menstrual bleeding, thrombocytopenia in pregnancy, anemia in pregnancy, blood clots and anticoagulation management during pregnancy, among others. Dr. Akpan is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society, and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. She has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has spoken at clinical and research conferences across the country. Dr. Akpan is an avid runner and was inducted into the Swarthmore College Garnet Athletics Hall of Fame for Track and Field in 2013.

I have been Service Chief of the BenignHematology Service in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology since 2006. As a clinician, my main interest is in the care of patients with thrombotic and bleeding disorders. As a researcher who conducts clinical trials in Benign Hematology, my interest is in thrombosis and hemostasis, specifically thrombophilic disorders and women's health issues. It is my hope that through dedication to the care of each individual patient, and dedication to research that will ultimately improve that care, we will meet our overall mission of helping our patients to have a better quality of life.
