Family medicine allows me to care for the whole family, from infants to senior's. While in residency, I was able to focus on women and children and their special health needs. This, along with my tradional training in family care allows me to treat the whole person as an interelated health system, as well as dealing with the symptoms that brings the patient to my practice.

Dr. Santayana completed his bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Florida in Gainesville before returning to his hometown of Tampa to complete a master's degree in biomedical sciences from the University of South Florida. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of South Florida, where he was recognized with the Humanism in Medicine Award.During medical school he was a student director for the BRIDGE free clinic at the medical school, as well as president of the Project World Health medical mission's organization. After medical school, he remained in the Tampa Bay area and completed his family medicine residency at Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg, where he served as chief resident and completed areas of concentration in outpatient medicine and global health. He then stayed on as teaching faculty at the Bayfront Health family medicine residency program for a short term, before moving to the Lutz/Land O'Lakes area and establishing an outpatient practice. Dr. Santayana is a Tampa Bay native and a fluent Spanish speaker who enjoys teaching his patients, as well as continuing to teach residents and medical students. His interests include preventative medicine, diabetes, procedures, global health, and practicing the full scope of family medicine.Outside of work, he enjoys the beach and boating. Tampa Bay professional sports, traveling, and spending time with his wife and 2 children.
