Biography: Dr. Naren Gupta completed his surgical internship and earned a PhD (with Distinction) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Virginia, and went on to advanced training in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Emory University. His research in antibiotics usage to prevent infections after surgery, the role of nutrition in disease, and stroke prevention by carotid surgery and stenting won national awards and is widely published. He is Board Certified in both General and Vascular Surgery. After completing his training, Dr. Gupta joined the faculty of the Brigham and Women's Hospital at VA Boston and was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School for 6 years. His expertise in the advanced use of stents and minimally invasive interventional techniques in the treatment of aneurysms, carotid disease, venous disease, blood clots and PAD significantly advanced the vascular surgery care of our nation's veterans. Dr. Gupta's innovative, patient-centered multi-disciplinary approach to reducing stroke was awarded the prestigious Young Clinician's Award by CIMIT, a consortium of Harvard, MIT and the US Department of Defense. Dr. Gupta has worked with FEMA, the Department of Homeland Security and the White House Medical Unit to provide surgical care during the G-8 Summit and disaster relief services after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. During Operation Enduring Freedom, he provided services as a Distinguished Visiting Surgeon at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany to care for acutely injured US and NATO warfighters flown in from Afghanistan and Iraq. Dr. Gupta believes that surgeons have a duty to serve their patients with heartfelt empathy. His greatest honor was to receive the Golden Heart Award twice for outstanding compassion in veteran care. Dr. Gupta brings this combination of cutting-edge surgical and endovascular expertise and empathetic, patient-centered service to VIV in offering care for the entire breadth of vascular surgery problems. He is dual Board Certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery and has active licenses in 8 states.

Biography: Dr. Deepak Deshmukh is a board-certified General & Vascular Surgeon at the Vascular Institute of Virginia. Dr. Deshmukh completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Boston College, and went on to complete his Master's degree in Medical Sciences at Boston University. Dr. Deshmukh graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his surgical residency at Robert Packer Hospital and Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, PA with additional training in Transplant and Pediatric Surgery at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He completed his Vascular Surgical Fellowship at the University of Rochester's Strong Memorial Hospital.Dr. Deshmukh has extensive research experience in the fields of endovascular repairs, stenting, and endarterectomy treatments for conditions such as End Stage Renal Disease, Peripheral Artery Disease, Carotid Artery Disease, Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms, and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms. He has had a busy clinical practice in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia since 2008. Dr. Deshmukh is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was originally commissioned in 2001. He has served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Tikrit and Mosul Iraq, as well as Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan on multiple tours of duty.While serving in the U.S. Army, Dr. Deshmukh was awarded the Army Commendation Medal during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. During his Deployments he has served as the Deputy Director of Clinical Services (DCCS) for a Combat Support Hospital and Forward Surgical Team. He has served with the U.S. Army in Honduras, El Salvador and Colombia on numerous humanitarian missions as well.Dr. Deshmukh is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and holds active memberships with the Society of Vascular Surgery and Society of Clinical Vascular Surgery. He has held faculty appointments at SUNY Upstate Health Science Center and the Eastern Virginia Medical School Department of Surgery. He has a passion for teaching Medical Students, Residents and Fellows. In his free time, Dr. Deshmukh enjoys tennis, swimming, and practicing Tae Kwon Do as a black belt.

Biography: This physician is accepting telehealth visits. Brian Chen, MD, is a board-certified general and vascular surgeon, who brings more than 20 years of experience to Surgical Associates of Richmond. Dr. Chen earned his medical doctorate from Emory University School of Medicine, followed by an internship in general surgery at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Dr. Chen's area of focus in vascular surgery includes advanced arterial and venous endovascular interventions, open arterial reconstruction, carotid interventions including Transcarotid Artery Revascularization, and endovascular and open aortic repairs. He received his BS in Biomedical Engineering, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School.
