Biography: Dr. Leahy believes in taking a conservative approach to treating the spine. In my practice, surgical treatment of spinal disorders is always a last resort. It is only after exhaustive conservative efforts have been made that surgery is appropriate. I feel that this is the safest approach to treating the spine and allows for the best surgical outcomes.Dr. Leahy is a strong proponent of minimally invasive surgical techniques, including nonfusion procedures such as artificial disc replacement and adult stem cell therapy. He is proficient in all of the most current surgical techniques in the treatment of spinal disorders. He incorporates these treatment alternatives into his practice whenever possible. Every patient is different and will require an individualized treatment plan, Dr. Leahy says. I want my patients to know that I will take a very thorough approach to treat their spinal issues.Treatment Focus: Surgical and nonsurgical treatment of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.Dr. Leahy received his Undergraduate from Southern Methodist University, his Fellowship with Texas Back Institute and achieved his Residency with Scott & White Hospital, Texas A&M Health Sciences Center in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Care Philosophy: Fernando E. Silva, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally-invasive and degenerative spine surgery; and adult deformity and scoliosis surgery at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. Dr. Silva has trained at some of the nation's premier medical institutions. He earned his medical degree at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine in La Jolla, California. He completed a general surgical internship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts and was a visiting neurology resident at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Silva completed his neurosurgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in San Bernardino, California, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Silva completed an Adult Scoliosis and Deformity Spine Fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois; a Pediatric Scoliosis and Deformity Spine Fellowship at Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and an Advanced Pediatric and Adult Spinal Deformity Fellowship at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Silva has published numerous peer-reviewed medical journal articles, textbook chapters and societal papers. In his leisure time, he enjoys running, swimming, playing tennis and traveling.
