Biography: Jian Zheng, MD, is a surgical oncologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens and an assistant professor of clinical surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. An award-winning surgeon, Dr. Zheng was the recipient of Grant V. Rodkey Award for her scholarship, humanism, leadership, and technical excellence during her chief residency. She was awarded by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with the Chairman's Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. Dr. Zheng has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in surgical oncology in many leading journals, including Annals of Surgical Oncology, Annals of Surgery, and Journal of the American College of Surgeons. She is a member of several organizations, including the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, and the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association. After graduating from Duke University, Dr. Zheng earned her medical degree from University of South Florida, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Zheng served her internship and residency in general surgery at Boston University Medical Center, where she was elected to be the administrative chief resident. During residency, she also pursued hepatopancreatobiliary surgery research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Zheng then completed a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she also served as the administrative chief fellow. Dr. Zheng is a board-certified surgeon by the American Board of Surgery. Biography: Pierre F. Saldinger, MD, FACSis the Senior Vice President of Perioperative Services at NewYork-Presbyterian. and Attending physician at NewYork- Presbyterian Queens. He is also a professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr.Saldingerjoins NYP from NewYork-Presbyterian Queens where he serves asChairman of the Department ofSurgeryandSurgeon-in-Chief.He is alsothe Director of theNewYork-Presbyterian surgicalquality and safety programand aProfessor of Clinical Surgery atWeill Cornell Medical College. Adistinguishedandwell-publishedsurgeon,he hasextensiveexpertisein the surgical treatment of cancer and benign disorders of the pancreas,liver, gallbladder, bile ductsand surgical quality improvement. Hestudied medicine at theUniversity of Basel School of Medicine Switzerland,earned his medicaldegree fromSwitzerland's University ofBernSchool of MedicineandaMaster of HealthAdministration from the Mailman School ofPublic Health Columbia University. Biography: Nausheen Hakim, DO, is a hematologist and oncologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Queens, affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. She is an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Hakim has a special interest in the area of genitourinary cancers. Active in research, Dr. Hakim has published in several medical journals, as well as delivered presentations at the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the World Lung Conference. After obtaining her bachelor of arts in anthropology while pursuing the pre-medicine track, she volunteered for one year with AmeriCorps at the nonprofit South Asian Youth Action (SAYA). She graduated from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at Drexel University/Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. She served her hematology and medical oncology fellowship at the Northwell Health Cancer Institute. Dr. Hakim remains dedicated to the world of nonprofit by participating on the advisory board of Unite for Health. With a commitment to working in global health, she strives to better understand palliative care barriers in not only communities abroad, but in our own communities here in Queens.
