My interests include all sports or activity-related injuries, in particular complex knee injuries, knee ligament injuries, cartilage disorders as well as shoulder injuries. \n I obtained my medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, graduated from a residency in orthopedics at the University of Virginia and completed the prestigious sports medicine fellowship at Rush University in Chicago. I also earned an undergraduate degree in athletic training from Purdue University and a master's degree in physical therapy from Washington University in St. Louis. \n My "on the field" experience includes working with the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox, as well as the athletic departments of Purdue University, University of Virginia, James Madison University, DePaul University and Wabash College. I have also authored numerous journal articles and medical textbook chapters reporting on findings in basic science and clinical research. \n Previously, I was an assistant professor and orthopedic surgeon at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. While in Charleston, I also served as the lead team physician of several local high schools as well as the Charleston RiverDogs, the New York Yankees minor league baseball team. I was also the director of sports medicine at Mission Hospital and the lead team orthopedist for the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, Asheville City Soccer, Asheville High School and the Asheville Tourists minor-league baseball team.

Biography: Dr. Ahmad is a board certified physiatrist with specialty training in pain management. Dr. Ahmad completed his residency training in Physical Medicine Rehabilitation at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal medicine and interventional pain management at the Center for Advanced Pain Management and Rehabilitation in New Jersey. Biography: I am a board-certified dual fellowship-trained sports medicine and hip preservation orthopedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the hip, shoulder and knee. \n As a hip preservationist, my focuses are arthroscopic treatment of complex hip disorders, including labral tears, femoral-acetabular impingement, focal cartilage injuries, gluteal tendon tears and proximal hamstring tears. I am passionate about treating sports injuries of the knee and shoulder for both adolescents and adults, specializing in meniscus and labrum repair, ligament reconstruction, tendon repair and treatment of focal cartilage injuries. My goal is to offer a superior level of fracture care, including management of traumatic orthopedic injuries. \n I am currently serving as a team physician for the Charlotte checkers as well as local high schools, with previous experience taking care of Duke University and North Carolina Central University Athletics. This, along with my background in ice hockey and long-distance running, helps me connect with the patient's drive to return to sports as quickly as possible while maintaining an active lifestyle. I'm excited to bring a high level of comprehensive care for athletic injuries of the hip, shoulder and knee to Charlotte and surrounding communities. \n In my spare time, I enjoy exploring the outdoors with my wife and kids. If we are not at a park or the swimming pool, we are probably bringing chaos to the running/hiking trails where we live in south Charlotte.

Biography: My mother is a nurse practitioner. From the time I was young, I wanted to be a doctor. \n When I was a teenager, my grandfather had a massive stroke, and one of my closest friends was diagnosed with brain cancer in the same year. As a result of those dual experiences, I felt called to neurology. I wanted to help make this world better for those with neurological diseases. \n As I furthered my training, I realized my heart was called to headache disorders and to obstetric neurology, so I continued my training through fellowship opportunities. I am proud to serve the Charlotte area as a subspecialist in these two areas. I'm a board-certified headache specialist. \n I have found that patients often know their body and their symptoms better than anyone. Every patient has their own story to tell. When doctors listen closely to those stories, it's easier for us to determine the right diagnosis and the right plan for that patient. No two patients are alike, and each deserves individualized care. \n At Novant Health, I serve as lead neurologist in the greater Charlotte area, vice chair of the physician governance committee, head of the comprehensive headache center, and founder and head of obstetrics/women's neurology. I'm also communications director for the Southern Headache Society. \n I've published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, and I frequently speak at academic conferences. \n Teaching the physicians of tomorrow is important to me, and I serve as an adjunct professor and fourth-year neurology clerkship director at the UNC School of Medicine branch campus at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center; assistant professor at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine; and as a member of the teaching faculty in the Novant Health Family Medicine Residency Program. \n I am married with two growing boys, and my family means the world to me.
