Patterson, MD, is an Orthopedic Surgeon with LewisGale Physicians who has served the Southwest Virginia community for over ten years. Dr. Patterson graduated with honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology earning a bachelor of science in Microbiology and a certificate in Industrial Psychology. Following his undergraduate work, he earned his medical doctorate at the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta. He completed two residencies, the first in internal medicine at University of South Carolina and the second in orthopedic surgery at University of Florida-Shands, Jacksonville. Dr. Patterson also achieved a fellowship in orthopedic adult reconstruction at OrthoCarolina, in Charlotte. Dr. Patterson is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). He has more than 16 years of experience in all areas of Orthopedics, specializing in hip and knee reconstructions, both primary and revision. Dr. Patterson has a passion for teaching and has taught students, residents and fellows. He also participates on the Christian Education Committee at his church.In addition to his established patients, Dr. Patterson has offered his medical expertise on several international missions including Peru, Venezuela, Zambia, and Haiti. When not treating patients, Dr. Patterson enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, as well as fishing, running, and coaching little league soccer.
