Biography: Nearly 600,000 people undergo knee replacement surgery every year. But new technology has the replacement joint lasting longer than it used to. Dr. William Nordt is an orthopedic surgeon at the Parham Doctors Medical Complex. He tells us surgery should still be a last resort. We put people in programs where we try to understand how they carry the forces through their knee joint and why that knee joint is deteriorating in a specific area. And then through neuromuscular training, or physical therapy we try to reduce the forces on that joint.
