Biography: Kevin Kelleher, M.D., is a board-certified family medicine physician with LewisGale Physicians in Roanoke, Virginia. He is an attending physician at an academic medicine clinic as part of the Family Medicine Residency Program affiliated with LewisGale Medical Center. In this role, Dr. Kelleher supervises resident physicians, training them to be the next generation of physician leaders. Dr. Kelleher completed his undergraduate studies at University of Notre Dame. He then went on to earn his medical doctorate at Medical College of Ohio and completed his internship and residency in family practice at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kelleher has more than 40 years of experience.Dr. Kelleher is board-certified by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (ABPS). He has served as a national spokesperson for free clinics and was medical director of the Bradley Free Clinic for 33 years. In this capacity, he was a key player in passing the Volunteer Protection Act of 1997. He taught at Jefferson College of Health Sciences for 15 years and wrote a local medical advice column for 27 years.Dr. Kelleher has received numerous honors and awards throughout his career, including the Medical Society of Virginia's highest award for community service, the Free Clinic Lifetime Achievement Award, the David Newman Award, the Rotary Paul Harris Award, and Our Health's Best Bedside Manner Award for Southwest Virginia. In addition, Dr. Kelleher is an accomplished artist and illustrator, backpacker, canoeist, and fly fisherman. He is the author/illustrator of the bestselling book Tenkara: Radically Simple, Ultralight Fly Fishing as well as medical texts.
