Biography: Dr. Kristen Pepin is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist. She is a specialist in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery with a passion for helping women with fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis, pelvic pain and infertility. She has expertise in surgical and non-surgical management of these conditions with a focus on minimally invasive approaches. She has a particular interest in laparoscopic total abdominal cerclage and hysterectomy/oophorectomy.Dr. Pepin received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where she graduated with honors and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honors Society. She then went on to her residency at Brigham and Women's/Massachusetts General Hospital, teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School. She stayed on at Brigham and Women's Hospital for her fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. She also pursued a Master of Public Health degree at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Pepin has been nationally and internationally recognized for her research on minimally invasive hysterectomy. She has a particular interest inresearch on hysterectomy outcomes, tissue extraction techniques and disparitiesin surgical treatments within women's health. Care Philosophy: "I believe that pregnancy is a natural if unique phase in a woman's life. My job is to assure that each pregnancy is proceeding normally and intervene if it is not. Many pregnancies are medically straightforward. Some, such as twins or triplets, may be complex from the outset. In others, problems such as high blood pressure or pre-term labor may develop. I am fortunate to practice at the Weill Cornell campus of the New York Presbyterian Hospital where the latest technologies and superbly trained specialists are only a few steps or a phone call away. I still find each pregnancy and delivery extraordinary and exciting. "I chose to practice Ob/Gyn because I am able to care for women through the many stages of their reproductive lives. During my years of training and practice, I have developed several areas of special interest and expertise within gynecology. Biography: Dr. Maria Teaiwa-Rutherford is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Teaiwa-Rutherford obtained a bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University and earned her medical degree at Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital Center, where she served as chief resident.Before joining Weill Cornell in 2021, Dr. Teaiwa-Rutherford developed a thriving practice at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital (later Mount Sinai West), where she felt privileged to be a part of many women's lives through routine gynecological care and family planning to pregnancy and beyond. Dr. Teaiwa-Rutherford was named a Top Doctor in the New York Magazine rising stars issue two years in a row and also received the Vitals Patients' Choice award. Born and raised in the Fiji Islands, Dr. Teaiwa-Rutherford has a strong interest in promoting women's health in developing countries. She has partnered with international medical programs to provide free obstetric and gynecological care to women at hospitals in Fiji and Kiribati. In her spare time, Dr. Teaiwa-Rutherford enjoys running and yoga. She lives in Westchester County with her husband and three children.
