Dr. Garcia completed his general surgery training at the University of Florida in Jacksonville and pursued a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Florida in Gainesville.He began his career in Ocala, Florida, where he played a pivotal role in transforming a community hospital into a tertiary referral center, launching a general surgery residency program, and establishing a Level 1 trauma center. As the associate trauma medical director, he practiced a wide range of acute care surgery, including elective and emergency procedures, trauma, and surgical critical care, all while developing a passion for complex surgical cases.Dr. Garcia returned to Texas during a challenging time; when his sister was diagnosed with debilitating cancer, he sought opportunities in central Texas. With years of experience in the field, Dr. Haywood holds expertise in various aspects of internal medicine, and his interests include integrative, functional, and regenerative medicine.Before pursuing his medical education, Dr. Haywood was an integral part of research teams at UT-Austin and University of Illinois at Chicago, investigating the neurobiological underpinnings of mood disorders. Dr. Haywood is passionate about applying the knowledge he gained through his research work to provide the best possible holistic care for his patients.When he is not attending to his patients, Josh spends his time reading up on the newest developments and publications in groundbreaking medicine, including the interface of artificial intelligence and medical decision-making. Josh has various hobbies, including yoga, tennis, pickle ball, and the piano.
