Dr. Ryan has given several presentations and has been published for research in his field. Biography: Brian I. Nwannunu, MD, MS, is an orthopedic surgeon with Texas Joint Institute located in McKinney and Sherman, Texas, fellowship-trained in adult reconstruction and total hip and knee replacements. Dr. Nwannunu earned his bachelor's degree at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was part of the Morehouse College Honors Program. Upon graduation, he completed his master's degree in physiology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, with a concentration in complementary and alternative medicine. Dr. Nwannunu then graduated with his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.Dr. Nwannunu completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the John Peter Smith Health Network in Fort Worth, Texas, before pursuing additional training with a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Biography: Sheena Bhuva, M.D., A Plano, Texas native, has joined the Texas Back Institute as a Physiatrist. She completed her Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine Fellowship at Desert Spine and Sports Physicians in Phoenix, Arizona. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine at Texas A & M Health Science Center College of Medicine, Bryan and Dallas, TX in 2013. She completed her Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency, where she was Chief Resident at Baylor University Medical Center, Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation, Dallas, TX.Her recent Honors include the Arnold P. Gold Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award (1 of 3 PM&R residents who have won this award from 2004-2016), the American Academy of Neurology Medical Student Prize for Excellence in Neurology, and The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Sarah Baskin Award for Excellence in Research.She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Spine Intervention Society, the North American Spine Society, and The Texas Medical Association.Dr. Bhuva enjoys spending time with her family and friends playing board games and trying new restaurants. Care Philosophy: As an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in treating conditions of the hip and knee, I do my utmost to return patients to an active, pain free lifestyle. I am fellowship trained in Adult Reconstruction, specializing in total hip and knee replacements with a large focus on partial knee replacements. My aim is to improve my patients' quality of life with the most minimally invasive way possible. I aim to use a patient's biology first, and many of my patients are helped through things like phyical therapy alone. While I love to operate, I strive to use this as the last option for my patients. This is the tact I would want my family treated with their medical problems. If surgery does become the last option, I try to utilize the least invasive surgical procedure to fix the problem. Optimizing the treatment to best improve my patients' function and pain relief while minimizing the risks and downtime is one of my primary goals.
