Biography: Kevin McMahon, M.D., is a board-certified neurologist with fellowship in epilepsy at Rio Grande Neuroscience and Epilepsy Center in McAllen, TX. Dr. McMahon began his medical studies at St. Georges University, and went on to complete his residency in neurology at the University of Connecticut. Dr. McMahon then completed a fellowship in neurophysiology with an epilepsy focus at Albany Medical Center. Dr. McMahon is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Dr. McMahon has performed widespread presentations, conferences, publications, and research in the field of neurology and epilepsy. Through his fellowship training, Dr. McMahon was provided with the highest level of study and accomplishment in his field, making him an expert in the treatment of epilepsy, Electromyography (EMG), Nerve conduction (NCS) testing and Electroencephalography (EEG) analysis in patients of all ages. In addition to this, Dr. McMahon has a wide breadth of knowledge in other fields of neurology, which include movement disorders, headache syndromes, and stroke. He received his medical degree from TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine and speaks multiple languages, including Spanish. He is experienced in lumbar puncture, electromyography, electroencephalography, botulinum toxin injections for headaches, and trigger point injections.His approach to patient care is grounded in evidence-based medicine, alongside a careful consideration of behavioral and lifestyle factors that affect health. Dr. Arismendez is excited to offer all the latest therapies in clinical neurology, from pharmacologic treatment to neurostimulation and osteopathic manipulative treatment. As an osteopathic physician, he applies a multifaceted approach to formulating a treatment plan. He believes that the optimal approach to neurologic care in particular and medical care in general involves a collaborative approach between himself and each individual patient (often alongside family members). Dr. Arismendez strives to ensure that every one of my patients has a proper understanding of their neurologic condition, and the rationale behind their plan of care.Dr. Arismendez chose neurology after early exposure to the health sciences while taking some college prep courses at Hidalgo Early College High School in Hidalgo, Texas. He was fortunate to have had many inspiring and passionate teachers who guided him toward discerning a career in medicine. Having been born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, he has always dreamed of finishing his medical training and returning home to provide care in the community that he calls home.When not caring for his patients, Dr. Arismendez enjoys quiet time at home and also hosting family gatherings and cooking for special occasions.
