Biography: Dr. Patel is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease with added qualifications in Interventional Cardiology and Endovascular Medicine. He is also board certified in Nuclear Cardiology and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation. Biography: Dr. Mhatre is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Interventional Cardiology, Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine. He holds additional certifications in Vascular and Endovascular Medicine and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Florida and completed medical school at Florida State University. He completed residency and his Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at University of Florida and continued his training in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Arkansas. He completed an Advanced Coronary & Endovascular Intervention Fellowship at Phoenix Heart Center in Arizona. Dr. Mhatre is seeing patients with general cardiology needs as well as providing interventional care for those with coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease. He also specializes in limb salvage and has expertise with lower extremity wound care. He has privileges at both Bay Medical Sacred Heart and Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center. Dr. Mhatre has been practicing in the Phoenix area, but is originally from Lake City, Florida. He and his wife are already very familiar with Panama City and are happy to be back in Florida and closer to family. Biography: Dr. Haghighat graduated from Amherst College with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience in 1993, and he received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. Dr. Haghighat remained in Philadelphia where he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine in 2001. He headed south to Emory University for his Cardiology fellowship which he completed in 2004. Dr. Haghighat then went to the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans for his advanced sub-specialty training in Interventional Cardiology and Peripheral Vascular Intervention which he completed in 2006, serving as Chief Interventional Cardiology Fellow during his last year.In 2006, Dr. Haghighat joined the Cardiovascular Institute of Northwest Florida and helped spearhead the burgeoning peripheral vascular program. Shortly after his arrival, Dr. Haghighat initiated the first and only carotid stent registry in the region, and he continues to serve as the principal investigator. Dr Haghighat is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease with added qualifications in Interventional Cardiology, Endovascular Medicine and Nuclear Cardiology. He is a fellow in the American College of Cardiology. Care Philosophy: Dr. Powell and his staff are committed to providing the highest quality medical and cardiovascular care possible. Dr. Powell is board certified in cardiovascular diseases. He has been practicing cardiology locally in the Fort Walton area for almost 30 years. He gives each patient the direct and personal attention that we all deserve. We participate with every major insurance company and the billing office can be reached easily while statements are handled locally. Every patient that comes into our office is seen personally by Dr. Powell and his nurse, Angie. We do not employ physician extenders or any other type of mid level providers. Every consultation and follow up office visit is conducted by Dr. Powell. We also believe that every patient's time is just as valuable to him or her as to us. For that reason the office appointments are scheduled in a way that minimizes any wait time for the patient while giving each patient ample time to fully discuss problems with Dr. Powell. Dr. Powell goes to conferences every year and completes any courses necessary to maintain his board certified status. Not only is he continually up to date on all theraputic options for any particular heart problem a patient may have, he also believes strongly in prevention to maintain good health. Preventive health care is crutial for all of us to stay healthy. Dr. Powell personally sees all of his patients admitted to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center unless he is being covered at night or on a weekend by another board certified cardiologist. FWB Medical Center hospital provides excellent patient care and the extensive facilities provide state of the art treatment options for all patients who are admitted or seen in the outpatient departments. He rounds daily on all of his admitted patients there in order to coordinate the cardiology care and maintain essential continuity. We do not require a referral to be seen in our office. The appointment date is based on the severity of the problem as communicated to us at the time the patient calls to request an office visit. Follow up visits are handled the same way and can be made the same day if the need arises. Dr. Powell believes that emphasizing prevention while utilizing state of the art treatment options individulaized for each patient can provide every patient with the highest quality medical care at the lowest possible cost.
