She has specialized training focused on cultural competency and inclusivity. She graduated magna cum lade from Saint Louis University with her Master's degree and family nurse practitioner certification. Currently, she is completing her psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certification to expand her breadth of practice. Effiem has extensive experience working with developmentally disabled populations. She has had the privilege to work in various clinical settings which include group homes, assisted living, skilled nursing homes, and inpatient units at various hospitals in California, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Biography: Dr. Julie Nicholson is part of the Roper St. Francis Physician Partners primary care team. Dr. Nicholson earned her medical degree and completed her residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Nicholson always seeks to understand her patients' concerns from their point of view. That's because she wants patients to feel comfortable coming to her with any health question or concern. She also tries to get to know her patients on a personal level. That way, she can provide a stress-free experience that encourages patients to participate in shared decision making about their care. When she's not seeing patients, Dr. Nicholson enjoys hiking, biking, running and spending time with her family.
