He earned his medical degree from the Industrial University of Santander in Columbia. He is board-certified in medical oncology. Dr. Castro is an active member of several academic and biotechnology organizations, including the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology's Scientific Review Committee, the NCI’s Leukemia Steering Committee, and advisory boards of different biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
