Biography: Dr. Robert Stephen Ellis graduated from the Temple University School of Medicine in 1996. He completed his general surgery residency at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons at Harlem Hospital. During his residency, he conducted research at the Chanin Cancer Institute of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine as a Charles E. Culpepper Research Fellow. During his final year of residency he served as the executive chief resident. The following year he was awarded a position as clinical instructor at Harlem Hospital and during that time he completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Endoscopy. Leaving the cold winters of New York behind, Dr. Ellis traveled to Florida where he completed two additional fellowships in Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at the Ryder Trauma Center at the University of Miami. The trauma program at the University of Miami was regarded as the most comprehensive trauma training program in the country. While completing this fellowship, Dr. Ellis was highly recruited by some of the premier academic trauma programs in the country. In May of 2005, Dr. Ellis arrived at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas where he has helped to create a model Acute Care Program that seamlessly integrates Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, Emergency General Surgery and the care of devastating wounds. In 2015, CareChex named Mother Frances the number one in Texas for Excellence in Trauma care. During his tenure in Tyler, Dr. Ellis has distinguished himself as a conscientious, thoughtful and skilled practitioner. He is highly regarded by his peers as one of the preeminent surgeons at Mother Frances hospital, which has 160 surgeons on staff and where over 20,000 operative cases are conducted annually. Dr. Ellis routinely performs some of the more complicated and challenging operations on the most critical patients in the hospital with exceptional results. He joined HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe in January of 2017 and has replicated his exceptional trauma care and organizational development. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians. In addition, he is a member of numerous other medical and surgical organizations. Dr. Ellis has special interests in optimizing critical care outcomes in the ICU and the resuscitation of the trauma and critical care patient. He has been invited to speak at numerous medical and surgical society meetings as well as surgical grand rounds. Dr. Ellis is married to Jaishree, an Obstetrician-Gynecologist. They have three children: Taylor; Bobby; and Jimmy. In his limited spare time he loves to watch soccer and play golf.
