Biography: Jose Mena, M.D., is a physiatrist with Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute and a member of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 18 physicians in multiple specialties closely aligned with Baptist Health South Florida. He specializes in diagnosing and treating spine and back injuries, diseases and disorders. He performs non-operative and interventional spine procedures, including epidural steroid injections; intra-articular facet injections; medical branch blocks and radiofrequency ablation; discograms; selective nerve root blocks; and peripheral joint/bursa injections in the shoulder, knee, elbow, hand/wrist and ankle and foot. Dr. Mena received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in Rio Piedras. He completed an internship at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Juan, and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Boston University Medical Center, where he was also chief resident. In addition, he completed a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of Louisville Health Sciences Center in Kentucky. He is Board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and holds a subspecialty certification in pain medicine.

Biography: Kavita Sharma, DO is board certified in both pain medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation. She earned her medical degree from University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME and went on to complete a medical/surgical internship with Saint Michaels Medical Center, Newark, NJ. Dr. Sharma completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at NYU School of Medicine Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, followed by fellowship training in the subspecialty of interventional pain management and spine disorders with Florida Spine Institute.Dr. Sharma is active in several professional associations including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Florida Academy of Pain Medicine, Florida Society of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Florida Osteopathic Medical Association. With her extensive and varied training, Dr. Sharma is able to offer patients a multi-faceted approach to chronic pain management. She enjoys the hands-on nature of interventional pain management and provides alternatives to opioid use or surgical intervention whenever possible for the management of chronic pain. Dr. Sharmas goal is to offer relief to patients in a direct way that improves their quality of life.
