He graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a degree in Microbiology. He attended the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and graduated at the top of his medical school class. He then completed his surgical training at UF Health Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. During his residency, he received numerous honors including the UF College of Medicine/Society of Teaching Scholars Outstanding Resident Educator Award. He also was a three-time recipient of the annual UF Department of Urology Academic Excellence Award. Following his graduation, he scored in the highest tier of The American Board of Urology Qualifying Exam and remained at UF for fellowship. While completing his fellowship, Dr. Pavlinec gained advanced training in complex robotic and laparoscopic urologic procedures, specifically in the areas of prostate and kidney surgery. He held Staff/Attending Urologist privileges at UF Health Shands Hospital and the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center as part of an adjunct-faculty appointment in the Department of Urology. In this role, his practice included many of the most challenging urologic conditions in the southeast, with an emphasis on complex kidney stone management. His commitment to patient-centered care and clinical/surgical excellence was recognized as he was peer-elected to the UF Chapter of the Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Honor Society at the conclusion of his UF appointment. His research has been published in several major urologic journals and textbooks in the areas of prostate cancer, kidney cancer, urologic reconstruction and kidney stone disease.
