Care Philosophy: Fernando E. Silva, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally-invasive and degenerative spine surgery; and adult deformity and scoliosis surgery at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. Dr. Silva has trained at some of the nation's premier medical institutions. He earned his medical degree at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine in La Jolla, California. He completed a general surgical internship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts and was a visiting neurology resident at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Silva completed his neurosurgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in San Bernardino, California, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Silva completed an Adult Scoliosis and Deformity Spine Fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois; a Pediatric Scoliosis and Deformity Spine Fellowship at Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and an Advanced Pediatric and Adult Spinal Deformity Fellowship at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Silva has published numerous peer-reviewed medical journal articles, textbook chapters and societal papers. In his leisure time, he enjoys running, swimming, playing tennis and traveling.

Biography: Gregory Elders, M.D. is a board certified and fellowship trained orthopedic and spine surgeon with Texas Bone and Joint with offices in Conroe and Huntsville, Texas. Dr. Elders is an honors graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and served as a chief resident in the Henry Ford Hospital's department of orthopedic surgery. He then went on to complete an advanced spinal surgery fellowship at the prestigious Texas Back Institute. Dr. Elders has over 20 years of experience in his field. He specializes in the treatment of a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions including sports medicine injuries, hand injuries, foot injuries and degenerative conditions and arthritis. Additionally, he has completed a fellowship in advanced spinal surgery and specializes in the treatment of all spinal conditions including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, spinal trauma, and spinal deformity.Regardless of what orthopedic or spinal condition you may be suffering from, Dr. Elders can help you determine the best course of action to get back to a pain-free life. Biography: Dr. Leahy believes in taking a conservative approach to treating the spine. In my practice, surgical treatment of spinal disorders is always a last resort. It is only after exhaustive conservative efforts have been made that surgery is appropriate. I feel that this is the safest approach to treating the spine and allows for the best surgical outcomes.Dr. Leahy is a strong proponent of minimally invasive surgical techniques, including nonfusion procedures such as artificial disc replacement and adult stem cell therapy. He is proficient in all of the most current surgical techniques in the treatment of spinal disorders. He incorporates these treatment alternatives into his practice whenever possible. Every patient is different and will require an individualized treatment plan, Dr. Leahy says.
