Biography: Israel Deutsch, M.D., is Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Deutsch cares for patients with all types of cancer, with a special interest in Prostate, Gynecologic, and Head & Neck cancers. He is Director of Brachytherapy Services in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Deutsch is a respected researcher with numerous peer-reviewed contributions to medical literature and has edited many book chapters in his areas of expertise. He is a member of the Review Committee on Continuing Medical Education at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Deutsch received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then received transitional year training during an internship at New York Hospital Queens, after which he completed his radiation oncology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Deutsch then furthered his training with a fellowship in brachytherapy at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. In collaboration with several clinical and basic science colleagues, he is conducting a number of clinical and translational studies. Dr. Deutsch sits on the Internal Review Board (IRB) for Clinical Trials and is also a member of the Children's Oncology Group (COG) as Investigator representing the Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Deutsch is very involved in residency education and serves as Associate Director of the Radiation Oncology Residency Program at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

Biography: Eileen Connolly, M.D., Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. She is a board-certified radiation oncologist who cares for patients with all types of cancer but specializes in the treatment of breast and pediatric malignancies with radiation therapy. Dr. Connolly has published various articles in her field, including several related to breast cancer. In addition to her breast research she participates in a number of Children's Oncology Group (COG) protocols for the treatment of pediatric malignancies and works closely with the Pediatric Oncology group at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Connolly received her M.D./Ph.D. degree, internal medicine and radiation oncology training at New York University School of Medicine, where she was Chief Resident of Radiation Oncology. During her residency training she received both the 2010 Varian Medical Systems/RSNA Research Resident Grant and the 2010 ASTRO Residents/Fellows in Radiation Oncology Award. In addition, Dr. Connolly was trained in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center - Center for Image-Guided Neurosurgery, pioneers in the field of stereotactic radiosurgery for brain cancers and malformations. Besides her clinical duties Dr. Connolly is the director of a translational research laboratory in the Center for Radiological Research (CRR) in which she pursues her research interests in understanding the mechanisms of radiation resistance of cancer. Specifically her work focuses on the PI3K/Akt pathway with a goal of developing targeted agents that may be used as radiation sensitizers to reduce the risk of local recurrence. For her research she has received the 2012 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Research Seed grant, and a 2012 Irving Institute/Clinical Trials Office Pilot Award.

Biography: Tony J. C. Wang, M.D., is the Co-Director of the Center for Radiosurgery, Chair of the Quality and Patient Safety Committee in Radiation Oncology at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and Professor of Radiation Oncology (in Neurological Surgery) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He is recognized internationally for his extensive expertise in malignant and benign brain tumors. His research interests are in Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery and brain tumors resulting in over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He has given over 50 invited lectures and visiting professorships nationally and internationally. He serves on several national and international working groups developing guidelines for brain tumor management and stereotactic radiosurgery. He is an editor for 2 radiation oncology textbooks and a writer for over 15 book chapters. He serves as an Editor of Translational Cancer Research, Assistant Editor on the Radiosurgery & Radiation Oncology Section of Neurosurgery, the official journal of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and as a reviewer for JAMA Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, and Physics as well as many others. Dr. Wang received his B.A. and M.D. degrees from University of Missouri Kansas City Medical School, during which time he was also a Clinical Research Training Program Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. He received internship training at Flushing Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Wang received his radiation oncology training at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia campus), where he was Chief Resident from 2011-2012. As a member of the Brain Tumor Center and Pituitary Tumor Center at Columbia, Dr. Wang is part of a multidisciplinary team that brings expertise from multiple specialties, including neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, neuroradiology, and neuro-endocrinology.

Dr. Kachnic's combined focus on clinical excellence, technological innovation, and patient-centered research continues to advance the field of radiation oncology, which has resulted in over 150 publications and over $17 million in research support from major federal and non-profit agencies. She is widely recognized for gastrointestinal research that has transformed the standard of care for several cancers by integrating novel radiation delivery techniques. A past president of the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Kachnic is internationally known for her clinical trial leadership positions in the National Cancer Institute and its cooperative group research bases. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Radiation Oncology Committee and Co-Chair of the Ano-Rectal Subcommittee for the SWOG Cancer Research Network research base, for which she is the multi-modality executive officer, as well as NRG Oncology's Associate PI of their NCORP (NCI Community Oncology Research Program) and chair of the NCORP's Cancer Control Committee. At Columbia, she is contact PI of Columbia's NCORP and is co-PI of several NCI training grants for residents and early career faculty.

Biography: David Horowitz, M.D. is a board-certified radiation oncologist and Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. His clinical focus is on gastrointestinal cancers, lymphoma and breast cancer, and his research interests focus on the development of novel ways to deliver precision radiation therapy to hard-to-treat cancers. Dr. Horowitz received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and his M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, during which time he completed a research fellowship in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences. He completed his internal medicine internship training at the Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center after which he completed his radiation oncology training at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia University Medical Center Campus), where he additionally served as Chief Resident. Dr. Horowitz has developed the use of multiple radiation techniques at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center to best help patients with cancer receive the most effective treatments while minimizing potential side effects. These include stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery, hypofractionated ablative radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, intraoperative radiotherapy, brachytherapy, total body irradiation, and total skin electron beam therapy. As a member of the Pancreas Center at Columbia, Dr. Horowitz is part of a multidisciplinary team that brings expertise from multiple specialties, including surgery, medical oncology and radiology to the care of complex patients with pancreas cancer. Outside of his clinical duties, Dr. Horowitz serves as Director of Medical Student Education in the Department of Radiation Oncology, as well as the Associate Program Director for the department's residency program. Dr. Horowitz has mentored numerous medical students and residents, with multiple mentees receiving competitive research grants from the NIH, American Medical Association, and Gold Foundation.
