He then finished his residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he was awarded the J. Thomas Magan Award for Clinical Excellence. He finished his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago, where he was awarded the Department of Medicine Award for Excellence in teaching. He was also awarded the American Thoracic Society Travel Award.
