Rude and Careless
Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Maghen was awful. I saw Dr. Maghen for a fractured humerus. He was very rough when attempting to fit me for a sarmiento brace and dismissive of my pain. He was condescending and incredibly rude when I asked questions. I would never return to him for treatment.

straightforward advice, no bs surgeon
The review was rejected for some reason last year. Dr Maghen was attentive. While treating another issue, he identified a lyme tick disease - a problem not related to surgery that others have missed. I needed something done immediately without the bs red tape and protocol. He performed surgery on my hand with the tools he had. It did the job :)

Great Doctor
Great bedside manner. Diagnosed my issues and presented multiple solutions. Made me feel comfortable with my visit and the results. Dr. Maghen has performed two surgeries and one in office procedure on my right hand and I’m happy with the outcomes.

Dr. Machen is great
Dr. Meghen was very attentive and his support team is top notch. He handled both my emergency surgical needs as well as those of my immediate family promptly and in a highly skilled fashion. Top notch and highly recommended.

Competent good communicator
I have seen Dr. Maghen for two different conditions. He is very good a assessing problems and using the least invasive means to solving the problem. He explains things well.

Dismissive and Disinterested
Dr. Maghen barely examined or listened to me and said things like "believe me, this isn't common" and "well i hope it works because otherwise i don't know what to do" before rushing me out of his office within 5 minutes with prednisone and opioids, without even knowing what was actually wrong. A day later my symptoms and swelling were worse despite the prednisone so i went to an urgent care where a nurse practitioner took the actual time to help diagnose the likely problem, which needless to say I'll be going to a new specialist to have confirmed.

Useless appointment
I do not understand how this doctor has glowing reviews, I'm sure negative ones are being filtered out. I saw Dr. Maghen/was referred to him by my other doctor at Somers Ortho. I broke my finger in October and after developing a mallet finger, Dr. Howard suggested doing occupational therapy several times a week and seeing Dr. Maghen. I waited over an hour to be seen. When he did come in the room he told me he was going to do X-rays but couldn't because his tech had an emergency. Then he proceeded to tell me that my mallet finger and complete loss of movement in that finger would stay that way forever and he wouldn't recommend surgery. No solutions, nothing. When I told him it's my ring finger and I could only wear my rings on my right hand he responded "well you have a nice ring, no one will notice that." The bedside manner on this doctor is rude, unprofessional, and frankly insane. I don't understand how he is helpful to others but seeing him was literally a total waste of time.

This was my first visit to Somers Orthopaedics and I saw Dr. Maghen for a trigger finger. He was very kind, patient, knowledgeable and clearly explained the pros and cons of getting a cortisone shot. After discussing it, I went ahead and got the shot. I then briefly discussed other orthopedic issues with him (hip and back) and I intend to follow up with him for these other issues.

I love Dr. Maghen. He is kind, compassionate and very, very smart. I have seen him a number of times, myself as have my family members. He's not performed surgery on me, but treated both my mother and my sister for broken ankles. Dr. Maghen is wonderful at helping me understand what my arthritic hands need, to help me have a life. Three cheers! He's wonderful!

Dr. Maghen performed emergency surgery on my 88-year-old father's broken hip. Within the week he was up and walking! Dr. Maghen was kind, compassionate and obviously can fix a hip! I would highly recommend Dr. Maghen to friends, family or anyone needing hip repair. The set up Somers Orthopedics has at Putnam Hospital is quite impressive. So many caring attentive Professionals. Thank you, CS
