I have been seeing many psychiatrists for my anxiety and depression for the last 18. My previous psychiatrist retired; I switched to Dr. Shakir's personal practice at Staten Island Medical and Behavioral PC. I found her up-to-date and knowledgeable. Her staff is also professional and courteous. She weaned me off addictive meds and put me on only one pill a day. I have improved a lot; I am feeling much better under her guidance within two months. I highly recommend Dr. Shakir

A nightmare. Dr. Shakir is fine during appointments. However, communication and billing is awful. There were times that I would get no responses to emails, calls, or texts for over a week. Sometimes, I would not get a response at all. Appointments were just randomly scheduled for me and I would be texted with 1-2 days notice. They would charge me for a full session when I would talk to Dr. Shakir for literally 5-10 minutes. They charged me for an appointment that was scheduled randomly for me and I never confirmed. I didn't even get a call for the appointment, just a text. Honestly, I would I just avoid. Not worth the frustration.

She is board certified, with excellent bedside manner. Excellent rapport. Addresses all concerns with empathy and kindness. She is a very good listener, with excellent knowledge of psychiatry and medicines. But one negative aspect, I would give her 5 out of 5.

She's seemingly only interested in dispensing medication, if you try to discuss anything of note she will quickly change the subject
