Compassionate Care at its best!
Dr. Highshaw is my Urologist, and I couldn't be happier. Besides being an excellent physician, with great experience, I was very grateful for the time he spent with me on my most recent visit with him. He took his time with me and listened to my concerns. As well, he answered all my questions and made me feel very comfortable with my upcoming treatment options. He has a wonderful personality and he makes you feel like family right from the start. His staff is very friendly and knowledgeable as well. I'm grateful to have found Dr. Highshaw, I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking genuine, excellent compassionate care. Thank you Dr. Highshaw.

Couldn’t identify a simple inguinal hernia.Claimed to have seen thousands of hernias , said it wasn’t one. Did no labs or normal protocol for a urologist.Said energy drinks caused my bulge that wasn’t a hernia.. prolonged my condition for months.. finally got diagnosed and had to have emergency surgery.. he’s not a good Dr at all or his lpn … worst , par for the course at advent

One hour - for nothing
I came in office ain time. Non clean office. I waited an hour for the doctor, then prefer simply to leave. I do not belive the doctors who do not care about patient time.

Excellent Doctor!!
Saw doc in Pensacola office. Explained my surgery and all options available to me. Dr Highshaw did my surgery as explained took excellent care of me. Recovery was fast When I went back to office I found out Dr Highshaw may not be returning to Pensacola office. I’ve been trying to see if he’s at another office in Pensacola He’s a great doctor I was very lucky to have him do my surgery

Dr was great
First visit with Dr, Highshaw, totally professional and very easy to talk to and he took time to explain to me, now the front desk is horrible, over worked or she just needs help, called office and she put me on hold twice for 15 minutes and not even coming back on line to apologize or to see if I was still holding.nothing personal to that lady but she needs help

Lifesaving care
My primary care physician sent me to Dr Highshaw at Wesley Chapel Hospital. First admitted as end stage renal failure with terrible labs, Dr Highshaw treated me aggressively with compassionate care. Released 9 days later with very good labs and after several follow-up visits have no remaining problems related to this condition. I've seen some remarks claiming he took patients' concerns not seriously and poor bedside manner, but from my experience they mistook his trying to keep a positive attitude as a lack of concern. While I hope to never have a repeat of this problem, if I do I'll return to Dr Highshaw without a doubt.

I saw him with concerns about ED. I have been having issues all of my life. I am unable to orgasm normally. (Please excuse the details)....but....I am unable to even maasturbate normally! He immediately made up his mind that my problem is that I'm not turned on enough and that couldn't be any further from the truth! He just completely dismissed my concerns and told me I just wasn't turned on enough! He was VERY rude! I went to someone else at USF and they found out that my testosterone level is pretty low and I will be starting medication that will hopefully help. Dr. Highshaw needs to go to manners school! He also needs to take several steps back and reevaluate how he treats his patients! It's ridiculous to just dismissed your patients concerns like that! It's doctors like him that make all doctors look really bad!!!! ??

My father was admitted to the hospital for two days due to a kidney stone. When a physician finally showed up, it was unfortunately Mr Highshaw. Where he may have a lot of knowledge, he lacks in professionalism, compassion, and people skills. He was extremely rude as if he was having the worst day of his life and wanted to be take it out on his patient. There are too many other options for care to waste your time getting his opinion or lack of.

I think if you meet him in the ER for a one time emergency situation- you are good because he will take care of you. But then everything goes downhill. Although he comes across as very charismatic and caring... you will try to hang in there- like I did. I waited. I tried. But if you need a urologist- moving forward- find someone else. He says one thing and does another. He says he says things- that he never said. He says you never said things- that you clearly stated several times. He makes promises like- "I guarantee" and no doctor should do that because there are no guarantees... So you have false hope or hang on to his words because you are supposed to believe- trust- your doctor. He also is TOO busy to provide minimal care needed. Wish he could have done better- not lied, ignored & passed over details, or done what he said he was going to. Save yourself some time and health frustration- just research other doctors if you need a doctor for more than just a one-time thing.

Disappointed Patient – Sep 29, 2020
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Highshaw?
Dr Highshaw is a SMOOTH Talker. He diagnosed my incontinence issue & recommended a mesh sling & mini arch procedure. Dr. Highshaw gave nothing but great reviews regarding the procedure. Dr. Highshaw stated "I will feel like I'm 20 years old again & my husband will love it". I agreed to the procedure which was done in late 2008. Ever since the surgery I had nothing but medical issues for years such as Erosion of the devices implanted, bleeding and sever pain during any attempts at sexual activity. At the time of surgery in 2008 I was only 48 years old. Sadly, I was rendered celibate the rest of my life due to the operation. Dr Highshaw's final words to me were "there is nothing more I could do to fix the pain or bleeding". Those aren't words anyone wants to hear from their Doctor. He was abruptly absent from Alpha Urology Group in Riverside, CA shortly after preforming my procedure. One can only presume his performance was subpar & inadequate. I would NOT recommend this Doctor

Dr Highshaw is - beyond a doubt - a superior physician/surgeon with an enviable staff and a warm and compassionate personality. He did an emergency surgical procedure on me which went unbelievably well. Because of the emergency nature of the procedure and no prior urological problems up to that point, our first meeting was as I was going into surgery. But, his demeanor and incredible smile helped my stress level so much! I had two follow-up visits with him where he treated me like an old friend. To call him "a people person" would be an understatement - he truly loves people!

Dr Highshaw is a very caring Dr. I suffered with a large kidney stone for months ,before seeing him. Dr Highshaw knew exactly what to do and took care of my issue right away. He took time to explain in detail my treatment (lithotripsy) and was there, before and after surgery. Most of the time, I dislike seeing a doctor, but I looked forward to my visit with him and his staff. I highly recommend him.

Worst surgery experience. He never showed up prior to my surgery or saw me during my hospital stay. He changed the agreed upon procedure and then denied that there were any issues. After my surgery I saw him in the clinic then poof he was no longer affiliated with that healthcare system. I would NOT recommend this dr / surgeon to anyone.
