He helped me get answers
I'm shocked to see so many negative reviews. I saw Dr. Pfiffner a couple years ago after dealing with debilitating pain and he was the only one who did a full blood work up that also included ANA testing, which came back positive for autoimmune issues and I was finally able to start somewhere. Dr never pushed pain meds on me, instead he suggested herbal medicine. He may have not been all smiley and outgoing, but he did listen to me and helped me more than any other Dr. I actually am going to be scheduling another appointment at dent to see dr. pfiffner

Arrogant, Judgmental, non-caring professional
I hope Dr. Pfiffner never becomes ill and has to see a specialist that treats him as badly as he treated me. He did a very brief neurological exam and talked about what he saw on my tests and what the notes from my referring doctor had to say. He treated me based on what they said and never really listened to what I had to say. His facial expressions said it all. He ordered another test and didn't even hear me say I had that test and treatment before. He did not want to listen to me at all. He gives his profession and Dent a bad name. I do wish you better treatment than you gave me. No one should be treated as if they are crazy and their symptoms don't matter. Pain medication is not the answer to everything Dr. Pfeiffer.

RUDE! "It's either shots or CBD." 1 Ex-ray done no MRI, looked annoyed like I was wasting his time. Rude staff talking/laughing so loud I couldn't hear the girl at checkout.

My Experience was positive
I saw Dr.Pfiffner in May of 2022, basically as a last resort. I am very happy that I went to him. I had complete medical records and Dent was aware of everything that had been done before I went there. I think that may have been helpful to both him and myself. I found him to be a "normal"<---whatever that means<<< kind of person who heard what I was saying and was happy to help me. I felt he was very professional in his demeanor/actions and I didn't feel at all uncomfortable in asking questions or saying what I needed to say. I didn't find him warm and fuzzy, he was courteous and polite, and I was comfortable in his presence, he is a professional we are not trying to be best friends however he was NOT in any way arrogant, cold or condescending with me as some reviews have suggested him to be. I have another appointment scheduled, and will go without hesitation because he has definitely helped me and for that I will always be grateful.

Misdiagnosed
I went to see Dr. Pfiffner because I was experiencing neck and back pain. I'm sure he is a very smart man, but he did not have any bedside manner. He did a couple of tests to check to see if I had sciatica, but he did not otherwise examine me. The visit was very quick and I felt like I was being rushed out of the office. He sent me to PT for "cervicalgia" and prescribed me some pain cream that costs $35 but IMO is not better than biofreeze. He also referred me to one of his personal trainer contacts, which is hilarious actually because I am a student and I do not have money for that. At my first PT appointment, it was very obvious to them that I had a pinched nerve due to the symptoms I was experiencing. If Dr. Pfiffner had examined me properly or taken the time to ask the questions, he would've likely come to the same conclusion. I do not trust doctors who are dismissive of their patients.

Horrible, Condescending, Arrogant, Dismissive
The entire office visit was no more than 50 seconds. He didn't examine me, he didn't ask me any questions about myself or my health. When I tried to ask questions about the EMG and the results that had been explained by a surgeon, he said, "Well, yeah, so what?" When I asked him to please help me - it's been a year since I had full mobility of my legs with no reason why, he said, "Look. I'm ordering bloodwork, what else do you want me to do? I'm not going to treat you for something I don't know you have or don't have." I asked about the bloodwork - what tests, looking to rule out or find what and got, "*Sigh!!!* Lupus, you know... just tests. And then I'll see you in 2 months." FOR WHAT. More of that? No, no you will not. I had to do my OWN research to learn what blood tests were being done and why. I get it now - you're looking to rule out MS. I KNOW that... from my own work. And I won't ever subject myself to that kind of rude, caustic treatment from a physician again

Dr. Pfiffner was extremely dismissive and cold. He was very "well what do you want me to do about it?" He spoke over me while trying to give him my medical history and seemed like he just wanted to get me out of the room. He became combative when I stood my ground and pretty much begged him to help me. It was like he didn't even want to talk to me, he just directed everything to my boyfriend. He got up and walked over to the door, right next to my chair while pointing and yelling over my head at my boyfriend sitting next to me "this is my house! Don't you yell at me in my house!" He left the room and came back with a completely different tone, saying yes, he suggests surgery. I was completely flabbergasted by his complete lack of bedside manner and how he was completely prepared to dismiss me. I am extremely dissatisfied with the complete lack of "care" I received from this provider.

In my long life I can remember three appalling doctor visits. The third was earlier this week when my husband and I were seen by Dr. Thomas Pfiffner at Dent Neurological in Orchard Park. My husband has dementia and has begun exhibiting two disturbing new behaviors. More fool me, I took my husband to Dent to be seen by a neurologist. I asked two questions of Dr. Pfiffner. Both were answered with "I don't know, see your primary." He did make a few feeble attempts at diagnoses that any hospital orderly could pick up from listening to hospital chit chat. This man is a consummate buck passer. After his third artful dodge by offering a referral, we left. A search of the internet for these new behaviors advised me to see a neurologist. I did. I took my husband to Dent where he has been a patient for seven years and this is what we got: a travesty of medical care. If Dent recommends this man to you, get another doctor. I will.

1. Confused staff. I’m primary caregiver. We found ourselves in his office & didn’t even make an appointment with him. We told the receptionist we wanted Dr. Thomas Cowan & she just heard the “Thomas” and set us up with Thomas Pfiffner. Wasn’t even the right specialty—neurology instead of physical medicine & rehab. (Upon leaving noticed the different name on his coat.) 2. Defective office systems. He asked for an x-ray we were “supposed to bring with us.” We weren’t supposed to bring it. His staff was supposed to have requested it. Nobody told us to bring anything. No word as to whether he eventually got the X-ray much less any results. 3. Non-responsive. After the consult we made many telephone calls & sent email through portal & didn’t get answer. Could never get a human on phone. Was supposed to get pre-authorization for a time-sensitive MRI, we checked with the health insurance several times & it STILL hasn’t arrived.

My experience with this doctor left me in tears. I came to him at the Dent Spine Center to hopefully diagnose some chronic pain I was having in my back, hips, and legs. His "introduction" consisted of him walking in and saying "so what's wrong with you?" and it all went down from there. First he berated me for not bringing my MRI results from another doctor even though his office told me not to. Then he dismissed any and all my concerns. He was condescending, told me I needed to lose weight, and that was that. He behaved as though the entire visit was an inconvenience. Never again.

I came to him for a general neurology second opinion. I had copies of head scans in my car, but accidently locked my keys in the car (pretty fitting because I was there to address a great deal of memory issues). I commute from far away too. He treated me like crap. Maybe it was because I was late, but I checked in with office staff, but everything was locked in my key until the PD did an unlock, so it put me back about 20 minutes. He just seemed so annoyed to be treating me. Dismissed the idea of even trying to order an fMRI. He changed & became slightly more pleasant when I told him I had a baby die, but he still seemed like I had angered him. I felt super unwelcome by him. The staff was fine--it was him. Must be his case load and time is SO in demand. He was a jerk. Dr. Capote wasn't any better. I'm not impressed with Dent. The neuropsychologist, Dr. Bottoms was nice. She's the only one who hasn't sucked so far. But, as I said, I'm done with Dent. Never again.

No. Just no. Unfriendly, acted aggregated. His own secretaries Michelle's fault. Informed me Dent would have everything they need since mri and xrays were at UB. Dent affiliated with UB. Very cold. As though he were doing this for free. When you know insurance pays alot of money. Again, no!

Dr. Pfiffner explained my results to me and made sure I understood everything before I left his office. He took the time to show me my MRI images on his computer. Once he seen the worry in my face, he assured me I would be ok and he would monitor my cyst so nothing bad would happen. Dr. Pfiffners confidence, and knowledge eased my anxiety and for that I’m extremely grateful. Thank you!
