A fantastic person and surgeon.
While still in the military and fairly new to Elmendorf Dr. Knolmayer saved my mother’s life. She was not his patient, a nurse dragged him into her room to review her because a grossly incompetent surgeon left her with a perforated bowel and refused to consider they had screwed up. Dr Knolmayer examined her and had her in the OR for exploratory surgery immediately and saved her life. She was completely septic, everything the incompetent surgeon made her eat for 3 days was flooding her abdomen and poisoning/infecting her tissues, organs, and blood. Against all odds, military protocols, and normal practices a nurse with a backbone and Dr Knolmayer saved my mom.I am an OR nurse now, I have crossed paths with Dr K again in family emergencies and he is very professional, caring, and informative if it’s a real emergency. I would not hesitate to have him preform surgery on myself or anyone I care about. Not something that I would say about many surgeons I work with.

The surgeon operated on my husband for an emergency appendectomy. My husband has a serious medical condition and I asked that I be given a call after his surgery. 17 hours after I dropped my husband off at the ER, I still had not heard from the surgeon. By that time, I called the hospital (3 times) and his practice (1 time) and eventually another physician called. The surgery I was told my husband has (laproscopic surgery), he did not have. I would have expected a surgeon under these circumstances to have called me after the surgeon. My husband has had three prior surgeries (including one emergency one) and each time the physician called immediately after the sugery.
