Bye Mai
First visit she walked in the room and asked, “What do you want to do?” I thought to myself not to have breast cancer. She didn’t introduce herself, she didn’t explain my surgical options or what was involved in those surgical procedure (port or breast removal). Luckily, I researched my options and told her I wanted a double mastectomy. She said, “Do you think that will make you live longer? WOW! She was an hour late to the hospital to insert my port, with no call to the hospital, but that didn’t surprise staff as they said she was always late. When she did show up to meet with me she was still in her winter coat and gloves. After the port procedure Mai told my spouse and when she was told “thank you“ she never responded and walked away. Thank goodness she left Springfield and went to Florida. Now she’s somebody else’s problem.

Dr. Mai is absolutely wonderful - BRILLIANT!
All the negative reviews I've come across are absolutely non-sense. If "bedside manners" is all they are concerned about.... then pppffft! I don't know what to tell them. But Dr. Mai is a phenomenal surgeon. And I don't know about you, but I don't need warm & fuzzy on the surgery table, I need precision & excellence! And that is what you will get with Dr. Mai. But just to be clear, at no point what she EVER rude or condescending towards me during my office visits prior to surgery. I just had my post-op follow up with her nurse practitioner Amy Mann (also WONDERFUL) and I was so sad & heartbroken to hear that Dr. Mai will soon be leaving (relocating out of state). Dr. Mai, if ever you have an opportunity to read my review, I hope you know that I think so highly of you and you were WONDERFUL! Best of luck on your new endeavor.

Never again
I would not choose Dr Mai for any further surgeries. This is not a place to go if you need information, reassurance, compassion or empathy. questions are discouraged which is frightening when you have been told you have cancer. Nope, keep looking for you need surgery

Very rushed and rude. Did not like it when I had questions and made remarks about how she is the doctor. I did end up having surgery with her but was very upset when I specifically requested to talk to her before surgery and she did not show. At my post op appointment I asked a question and she laughed at me and explained the answer to me as if I was a child. She might be an excellent surgeon but her bedside manner is conceited and lacking any compassion.

I met with Dr. Mai for a consultation to have a double-mastectomy prior to developing breast cancer which was a 50/50 shot given some genetic testing. She humiliated me demanding that I take my gown off. I took it down past my shoulders. She said to take it off. I pushed it down and around my stomach. She took it the rest of the way off. I was so humiliated, even my own OBGYN will leave my stomach and breast covered during my exams and cover the one she examined to move to the other. This woman had me sitting there completely exposed and staring at myself in a mirror. She has horrible bedside manner. She even said that I do not need to see her again. All she did was throw %s at me. She kept asking if I understand which is fine but yea, I understand. I'm not dumb or I wouldn't be pursuing this. I left the office just crying. I do not recommend this woman and after speaking to friends that have had similar horrible bedside manner with her, they wouldn't recommend her either.

I was a patient of Dr. Mai from August-October, 2020. Your case will not be like mine, but this is my story. Dr. Mai insisted on further testing which discovered a second cancer. She also insisted that I would need plastic surgery. I'm so glad she was my surgeon. Without Dr. Mai, my story would be very different. I highly recommend Dr. Mai.

Dr Mai was very rushed with my case and told me that breast pain was normal and had continuing issues. I pushed and had surgery and there was an issue found. She has no bed side manner and during surgery she did not keep my family informed. When marking me for surgery she kept the curtain open.

Seeing this doctor after my initial cancer diagnosis was as traumatizing as being told I had cancer. She is condescending, cold and void of any human compassion. She completed a successful surgery. I’m grateful for that. I will never forget how unkind she was in a very vulnerable time.

I am appalled at Dr. Mai's lack of sensitivity and compassion towards a patient, let alone one who is facing an uncertain future such as cancer, upcoming surgery, radiation, chemo and perhaps death! I did not go to medical school - she did! - so my concern, questions and lack of knowledge about breast cancer and subsequent surgery should not have warranted the treatment received by a "professional". Short, curt, condescending and rude. The only reason she got one star from me is because "no stars" was not an option.
