Saved my back 2 times
Dr Wray fixed my herniated disc's 2 times. Once for a fusion in 2011 for my L4-L5 and next for a discectomy in 2015 when I had an acute injury with my L5-S1. He is personable, explains everything well, he is caring, a family man, and efficient. My sciatica is gone 98 percent of the time (deep stress can turn it on a bit), the sciatica was horrible the first time and rough the second, but still after both surgeries, im pain free. He changed my life. If you are scared of back surgery, like so many are, I truely believe you can trust him and his team to take care of you and help you find the peace you need. Don't wait if your sciatica is bad. I lost nerves on my left side because I waited too long the first time. My family has a history of spine issues due to stenosis. He has operated on my mom and twin and both have had the same outcome. This is not any sort of paid endorsement. It's just a deep appreciation for a surgeon who took good care of me and my family.

Steven Wray changed my life
I’ve had back issues for over 50 years, since childhood. Four weeks ago, I was hunched over, walked without lifting my feet, used a cane, couldn’t hold anything in my left hand and was on a multitude of pain medications, so could not drive or even have a beer. Dr. Wray & his staff performed a TLIF on L4-L5 & L5-S1. Immediately after the surgery my pain in the legs, feet, back and buttocks was gone. Completely gone. They had me walking the same day. It’s very hard to not get emotional when I think of how much he helped me and my mental state. Talking about open back surgery was 1000 times worse than the actual surgery. If you’re in pain, I cannot recommend Dr. Wray enough. I wish I had had the surgery 40 years ago. I know it sounds weird, but I want to hug this guy.

Failed Back Syndrome
I had a lumbar fusion and two revisions with Wray. He did not do osteopenia-osteopetrosis workup before he sold me into surgery. Also, he did not acknowledge radiology's warning report after surgery 1 showing that my hardware was moving. Another surgeon group told me the hardware was in the wrong place after surgery 1. As a result of all this, my spine is out of alignment by 8mm, and I am living with failed back syndrome and chronic pain, way worse than I had before surgery. Go to Emory.

HIGHLY recommend
A little over 5 years ago I could not sit, stand or walk without extreme pain or without a cane. Dr. Wray and his entire staff were amazing. No long waits. He took the time to explain everything and answer all of my questions. I always felt heard and never like a number. My surgery went smoothly and I healed well. Today I can walk, run, dance, sit, stand, and even learned how to stand up paddle board.Dr. Wray gave me my life back and I will always be grateful!

no empathy, rude
He did not give me my tests results from my MRI in a timely manner and was rude. He had my old chart and did not realize my injury was at the same place as my prior injury

Not good experience
I was in immense pain for over a month and he insisted I get an epidural even though I had already had one and the injury was 2 years old at this point. herniation was almost 2 cm. I then had to suffer for an additional month to see if the second shot would work which it obviously didn’t. then I finally got a microdiscectomy with him and 5 days later from doing nothing, I reherniated. Not sure if it was his fault or my disc was just messed up. I had to get another emergency microdiscectomy from another doctor and I have been, thank god, pain free since. Not sure if the failed surgery was his fault and he is nice but im still upset because he made me suffer longer than I needed to when it was clear I needed the surgery asap.

Back Surgery
I consider Dr. Wray an angel from above. He solved my back pain of 8 years. I’m a physical therapist and 9/10 times would not recommend surgery. I’ve treated hundreds of patients with botched back surgeries. He’s the exception to the rule and I’d put him up against any back surgeon in the country.

Miracle Maker
Dr. Wray has saved me multiple times from excruciating pain. Each time I woke up, I felt better than before the surgery. I was able to get up as soon as I woke up and walk around. I went from barely being able to move, to being without pain in what seemed like minutes. Before any surgery, Dr. Wray would show me my films and explain everything, from what was wrong, to what he was going to do, to what my recovery would be like. Not only is he a great surgeon; he is also one of the sweetest, most genuine person I know.

When Dr. Wray Talks, Listen!
Dr. Wray spent almost 30 minutes with my husband and me, thoroughly explaining the issues he could see in my lower back x-rays and MRI. He listened very patiently while I went through my issues with my back and was patient with our questions and concerns. He is knowledgeable and caring, two words that do not describe the majority of physicians.

1 month post a 3 level ACDF and happy to report that I feel so good! I don't just let anyone touch my neck so after asking 2 doctors I work with, "who is the beI'm st Neurosurgeon at Piedmont?" they both immediately said Dr. Wray. He came highly recommended by doctors. This surgery and the recovery have been the easiest I have ever had. I went home after 2 hrs in the Recovery room and used very little of a mild pain pill. I didn't lose any movement ability in my neck and all the pain is gone. I can't say enough about how good I feel and looking forward to getting back to life. When I was in P.A.T there were other patients that were Dr. Wray's patients and they all said he came highly recommended to them as well. You can't go wrong with Dr. Wray. I am one happy person following this surgery. I went back to work after 4 weeks but probably could have gone back after 2 weeks. Rest assured you will be pleased with his whole staff as well. (**Melissa his PA & Jonathan too. THANK YOU!)

Dr. Wray is amazing! He has changed my life. I struggled in extreme pain for 3 years from a herniated disc, I saw a few different doctors and never felt comfortable with their recommendations. After being hospitalized for over a week, I knew I had to do something. After much research and a recommendation, I made an appointment with Dr. Wray. I knew within just a few minutes of meeting him that I was in the right spot and that he was the doctor for me. He performed a lumbar microdisectomy on me a few weeks ago and I am feeling better. His expertise, knowledge, and mostly his compassion are incredible. I am so thankful I found my way to him! I highly recommend Dr. Wray, you will not be disappointed.

I would really like to see Dr. Wray and have tried without success to reach his office to schedule. I was told by email from the office manager that they are not familiar with my healthcare plan. It is Liberty Health shares which is a faith based plan. My PCP files this for me as she is also on the plan and they pay well. Anyway, I understand and explained that I can and will self pay and then file for myself. No response. I have an apt scheduled with another neurosurgeon but want to see Dr Wray

Dr. Wray is a highly skilled neurosurgeon with an impeccable reputation but beyond that he is a wonderful human being. His bedside manner is unmatched, his caring spirit and genuine concern is evident from day one. Four years post neck fusion surgery, he makes himself available to me to answer questions and assist me with other family and friends’ neurological related issues. If you are one who only settles for the best, Dr. Wray is your only option. Tim Bryant, Johns Creek, GA

Dr. Wray performed my back surgery in 2015 and I am still doing fine. To be pain free is a true blessing and I cannot thank him enough for giving me my life back. He took the time to answer every question and I never felt rushed. He treated me like I was his top priority. Dr. Wray is caring and compassionate. I will never forget how well he treated me, with dignity and respect. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Wray was highly recommended by a colleague. I was in pain for over a year and was feeling hopeless thinking that I would never be active again. Dr. Wray's demeanor and bedside manner put me at ease as he guided me through the idea and process of surgery. Dr. Wray preformed a lumbar fusion by fusing L5 to the sacrum. Recovery was much easier than expected, I was back exercising in no time and ran a 10k in less than 5 months. Dr. Wray changed my life!

I met with this physician and his PA, Melissa today (Thursday) and had a wonderful experience. I have a long complicated history and they both took the time and effort to cover all the issues. He and his office have scheduled and had surgery approved for Monday. They are all very kind and have great bedside manner. Also, they are very knowledgeable and detailed with explanations, concerns, etc. Highly recommended.
